This is a build thread of our EG race car we have built for the VTEC Challenge race series. As some of you may know we had a K22 Cosworth powered EK4 SiR which I raced for 2 years in the Nippon Challenge, but she was looking a bit tired so we thought time for something new.

Her in her prime...

So the new EG......its a bit belated build thread but thought I'd post some pics of how she started. We've raced her twice this year - once with stock B16b, once with B16b with ITBs and now we've just completed a K swap.

We spent a few weeks hunting down a Civic DX which we found down on the south coast owned by a mature women  . No sunroof and rot free rear arches meant we snapped it and drove it home ready for the strippage to start

Not my favourite job, but a few 5am starts meant the sound proofing came up a treat leaving only minor residue and that was removed with a bit of elbow grease. As it stands now, its completely stripped except the running gear and ready for the new weld-in cage to be fitted next week. Most of the EK suspension and brakes will be used with a new engine and box being decided upon as we speak. New Polycarb window kit has been ordered along wit a few other bits so pogress should be pretty quick.

Belt sander died a death so havent been able to finish off the panels, but have managed to cut most of the unwanted bits out (seat rails and column support still to go) so should be all finished off tomorow and ready for the cage

A few shots of the new cage which is coming along nicely. Still a bit more to do but will hopefully start building it back up in the next few days

Managed to get the Civc back in the workshop today and had quite a productive day. As both doors are done, I attacked the tailgate and managed to cut a fair amount out.
I also weighed some stock items and these are the results.....................

Stock door 29.5kg
Ghetto version 12.5kg

Stock Tailgate 8.0kg
Ghetto version 3.5kg

So 38kg saving on just those 3 items

Then set about removing the subframe, suspension, fuel tank and other unwanted crap and refitting the 98spec Subfame with larger ARB, Hasport mount and PAS removal pipe.

All in all not a bad days work

Scotched the entire inside including the cage and finished off with a good panel wiping to clean it up. 4 hours and a bit of masking tape later its nearly ready for the inside to be painted

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

hopefully i will be doing the same early next year although not on this scale.
i'm gonna pic up a cheap little civic eg and strip her and build her up to a track slag..

looks great so far mate, nice idea with the weight saving.. :) doors are literally flat pieces of metal now lol.

awesome mike, love the cage and the prep that has gone into her since u first bought her :)

thought this had been posted up before with more work done?

That's one of the cleanest eg shells I've seen. Removing sound deadening has to be the worst job on a car by far.

Top car mate, went well with the b16 so I can't wait to see it go at angelsy :drive:

Let's see if you can break the richy dominance at long last!:p
