::Project 9 - The Build of Frankenstein::

Ive read through your thread bud and it very interesting, good on you for rebuilding the ek9 to its former state and better im sure and keep posting:))

nice 1 man! keep on posting, looks like this is going to be a good read.
the crash bar on my 9 and my mates 9 were rusted like yours.

I thought I recognized that name :))

Hi Mark its Russ who bought mentioned Crx that had been locked away for years

Glad to see that you've got another Honda. Best of luck with the build Mark will be keeping an eye on this thread.

Hey Russ, hows it going? You decided to venture over to the EK9 side then? It was sad to sell my EF8 but everything happens for a reason, it helped me purchase my house and now I have my EK9 project to keep me busy instead!

With regard to my build, keep an eye on this thread over the next few weeks as I have a huge update to upload. I have been on a bit of a buying frenzy and will post current status up as soon as I have finished the decorating!

Right guys, thanks for being patient! As previously mentioned I have been on a bit of a buying frenzy recently. Before I Give you a part project update I would like to thank the following people for reserving and selling me used parts to help the progress of Frankenstein. I can see light at the end of the tunnel!

Thanks to:

Livvy & Paul
Weasel
Type-r-dunk
Boyle
and Jap Performance Parts amongst other people

Right, Over the last month I have started a new job with a different company and had major work being carried out on my house so time has been quite tight. I have managed to sneak into the garage to install parts a few times and these photos reflect the progress so far.

If you remember back to the beginning of this thread I mentioned that the plan would be to assemble the car with all of the parts that I would acquire prior to a full disassembly and prep for fresh paint. This is still the plan as it allows me to perform all necessary fabrication and panel alignment to make sure everything is perfect for the final assembly.

Whilst browsing around on ebay late one evening I found a pre facelift heater console that looked in very good condition. Nobody had bid on it and I managed to snap it up for an absolute bargain price.

I finally got my rear crash bar back. To say I was happy would be an understatement - it looked brand new!

A good few months ago I purchased a Momo steering wheel hub from Championship White. Time to remove the SRS parts!

IMG_0460.jpg

And install the Momo hub.

IMG_0463.jpg

During one of my visits to Livvy & Paul to collect parts I noticed they had another hub for sale that was a dual fitment type (for different manufacturers wheels) and also came with the SRS cancellation plug. I put my hand in my pocket and added another part to the collection!

you removed the module on the st wheel that lets the horn work when steering wheel is turned, how did you get around that?

Im sure this is going to turn into a great build that many people will be jealous off, I wish I had the chance to do a ground up build on somthing like this.

Another late night ebay browsing session managed to bag me another absolute bargain. Behold a set of 15" Enkei RC-S wheels.

IMG_0627.jpg

I believe the story behind these wheels is as follows (somebody please correct me if I am wrong). The original GAB wheels that are seen all over the net were manufactured by Enkei. These RC-S wheels were available long before the GABS and are super rare (if your into that type of thing). To be honest its another wheel I have always liked and never thought that I would be fortunate to own a set. Again the only downside is again they are in a staggered fitment, the fronts being 7x15 +36 and the rears 7.5x15 +26! They too are missing their centre caps but again I will sort something out eventually. The spokes are painted in the original pearl white with a polished outer lip. They are very dirty and have suffered slight curb rash to the outer lip (nothing to serious). The plan is to strip the paint off of the spokes, repaint in championship white and re-polish the lips. I think they will look pretty good and they give me another wheel option! As soon as refurb starts I will post the procedure here in this thread.

you do realise you've saved this poor 9's life right? i like seeing this .. taking almost nothing and making it into something. Goodluck with the build man hope everything turns well with the 9 . i will be following this thread as i too am working on a project .ej6 though. maybe one day ill own a 9 ..so far so good keep it up man your in the right direction!!!!

I had purchased door cards from Livvy & Paul a while ago and they had been living up in my loft for months. I finally got around to fitting them along with a replacement fuel cap release cable, a boot (trunk) release cable and the rear loom to replace the fire damaged ones that came with my chassis when I purchased it.

There were tiny areas of surface rust on the floor pan that I sanded, painted with rust proofer and finished with acid etch primer. This was to stop any 'growth or spread of rust' prior to the disassembly for paint.

Browsing the For Sale section on the forum I managed to see Weasel's thread in which he wanted to sell his nearly new interior carpet. We spoke on PM and I agreed to buy it from him. When I received it I put the carpet cleaner over it and it came up like new. Even though it looked clean it was surprising how much dirt came off of it! Once dry this was installed into the car along with the majority of interior plastics that again were sourced from my friends in Bexhill!

EK9 floor mats and standard Recaro's on Spoon rails were installed along with the standard rear seat. The beast is starting to look like a car! My 320mm Momo course was installed along with the NSX R horn button.

I purchased a genuine EK9 rear wing and base plate. I couldn't wait to bolt it on. I also made some pretty apt stickers and put them on.

Even though the chassis is pre facelift the intention has always been to make the exterior facelift. I managed to buy facelift front wings in Y59 phoenix yellow and installed them onto the 9 along with side skirts in championship white.

I noticed on Type-r-dunk's website that he had a set of Cusco Zero2E coilovers for sale, I couldn't resist! (Thanks to Mike B for the clarification)

The suspension was fitted to the car along with a set of immaculate EK9 facelift tail lights and a rear bumper and lip.

Thanks for the kind words guys.:nice:

Lee s - With regard to your question, I believe that Livvy & Paul had that hub fitted on an EK9 they had and the horn worked 100%. I have not got any power in my car yet but as soon as I do I will be playing around with it and will post up my findings / solutions. Im sure there will be a certain element of modification required!

great job mate, as said in previous posts nice to see someone putting in the hours and money to revive a near scrapper :) starting to take real nice chape keep the good work up :)
