pls help guys! My ek9 has no vtec...

just got my ek9 today. It has no vtec. It has low end power but once im in the vtec range theres no vtec. What should be the problem? Do i need to adjust the valves? Or is there some other problem?
 
Did you not check this befor you bought the car??

Is there engine light on????
Is your oil level correct????

As above. Check oil. Check for engine light on. Does your speedo work correctly? If you have no vtec you should have a check light on for some fault.
 
This may sound stupid, But did you let the car heat up properly first?
If so then it could be any of the above.
 
^^could very well be the problem, hope he let it warm up before pushing it hard
 
yep, vtec wont engage if cold and also if there is engine light on will not either....

Lack of oil will also do this..... Which i found out :S
 
could be ur vtec solenoid. try removing it and connect it to ur batt. then listen if it 'clicks'
if it does means it is working.
 
engine was warm when i floored it. Bought it from japan, thats why no test drive. No engine chech light. Havent checked the oil yet, will be replacing oil on monday. Test drove it again last night. It easily hits 100kph but vtec engagement is very mild. It feels like its choked, like something is trying not to engage vtec the way it should. Will have the valves adjusted, change oil, change timing belt, tensioner bearing(for b16a), change spark plugs to ik22, change wires. Hope this would eliminate the problem. Would the fuel filter for b16a be ok for my ek9? Or is there a specific one?

Check you filter's. change you spark plugs and wires. I did all this an mine hit HARD now..
 
Is there a aftermarket ecu in it? What mods does it have? Check air filter to see its condition. Also have you confirmed the engine is a proper b16b? check for the engine number down at the front to the left of the exhaust manifold
 
yes, its a b16b. Its stamped on the engine. How would i know if it has aftermarket ecu? Air filter looks ok. Will check again. Can anyone tell me if fuel filter for b16a be the same for b16b? So i can replace it too.

theres a filter on the vtec soleniod when you take it off, could be clogged?
 
i checked the oil level. It was 3/4 full( just alittle bit below 2nd dot on dipstick) and the oil is almost dark brown to black color. Definetley needs to be replaced. Whats a goodl transmission oil?
 
Go to your local honda dealer and get Honda MTF oil. I find thats the best oil suited to the transmission.
 
i got some mtf oil at honda. Lukily they just got them in per liter bottle. Before they were just using engine oil for the transmission. Got it for only 250 philippine peso. :). At the shop they told me that i just need 2 liters for the transmission.
 
everythings been sorted out.my valves had big gaps, oil was dark, plugs also. Now vctec is working the way it should. Is it kinda quiet? I havent replaced the filter, headers, exhaust yet. Stilll waiting for it to arrive.
