How's it going? I'm currently addressing the robustness of the oil system for the new year, Mugen baffled sump on order and looking at an oil cooler kit.

Going to be buying a MOCAL 13 Row thermostatic oil cooler setup and since I am only home for two weeks next time, where my DC2 is, I need to install the kit in that period and want to make sure I have everything at hand.

Are braided lines recommended or are they more show purposes in this application as I guess the oil shouldn't be reaching more than 120 oC?

I heard about mounting the cooler on rubber feet to prevent unwanted vibration, Anyone done so?

Can you buy a sandwich plate with thermostat, infeed & outfeed ports for cooler AND temp take off point?

More importantly I would like idea's and advice on how to the mount the thing to the car with as little impact on the OEM integrity as possible.

Any help is appreciated!

Cheers
Kris

1. Braided lines are a smart idea, they are a fair bit more robust and less likely to split etc, it's nothing to do with the heat.

2. Rubber feet is recommended so not to damage the cooler.

3. I haven't seen a thermostatic plate with an extra take off for temp. Either run the temp gauge in the sump or run another plate for your gauges.
I run stacked plates and have done for years, no problems what so ever.

IMO a 13row may be abit too small. I had a 16row on my b18 and that still reached temps over 110c

I mount mine where the aircon rad goes, but you've got a dc2 so the radiator is full width.
Perhaps hand it from the crash bar?

My mocal cooler is monted with thick rubber washers to help with vibration

I use nylon braided lines which are robust and easier to spot potential wear or splits on the lines than braided imo, but obviously pad and protect any parts of the line that may be resting on the engine bay or any other parts

I also use Aeroquip fittings

Mine came with a Mocal thermostatic plate which I ran this year but I have removed the thermostat as its a track car and will be warmed up before it moves so there is no need, this also eliminates the chance of a faulty stat causing any problems

Thanks for the info. definitely put a spin on my choices, 16 might be the answer then! Yeh I might have to sort something around that area. My car doesn't get used in the winter, Although I guess a thermostatic is still recommended for a daily @SPek9 ?

That sounds like a good idea with the nylon. Did you buy this kit or similar or did you buy the things separately? This works out at £177.00 delivered, 16 row, thermostatic...

Also what length of piping do I need? That kit stated 2m's but I'm not sure that is enough for both feeds?

Thanks again boys!

2 meters will be plenty and you can cut any off it that you dont need

My car came with the kit on it but it looks exactly the same as above but with nylon lines

I had a 13 row on my 300hp boosted b16. Never had oil temps above 115c on track
Use braided lines and aeroquip fittings also. These will never pop off due to pressure plus they look a lot better than rubber hose and jubilee clips.
Im not sure 2m will be enough for the Integra, if I mind right I used approx. 2m in the EF8 and it has a smaller engine bay.

Where was your temp gauge? Must have been in the sump? Probably the best place to have it but mine is in a sandwich plate for convenience.
Perhaps that's why out results are so varied.
The 19 row I had on the boosted b16b kept it to 118c so?

Temp gauge was in the sump.
Was using 10w-60 then changed to 10w-50 iirc will have to double check that though.
Were your readings from the nurburg? Could be higher due to longer running?

Yeah that's peak temps from the ring.
Using 10w-40.

I'll be interested in what you go for as I'll be doing the same over winter.

I'll probably end up getting a 16row Mocal with themo plate. Then as said doubling the sandwich plates up for my gauges which are already installed.

You could always drill and tap into the side of the mocal sandwich plate to 1/8 NPT for an oil temp sensor

That's what Im going to do with mine

My turbo oil feed comes from the oem pressure sensor location already so I can't do this.
N/a guys shouldn't have a problem though

The mocal plates don't have a lot of material to drill and tap. it can be done but you only get 2 or 3 threads.

Mine doesn't look too bad but I will measure before drilling, its a fine thread so I will hopefully get more than 3 threads

Appreciate all the feedback guys! Have an oil temp gauge I could use but don't know where I should mount the probe...Interesting about drilling and tapping the sandwich plate @SPek9 .

So I ordered:

Mocal thermostatic sandwich plate
16 Row Mocal radiator
Braided hoses fully asesembled/crimped and suitable for a Honda with the oil filter at the rear of the engine :nice:.

Will update with pics how/when I decide to mount the kit.

Looks alot like the kit that came on my car tbh.
I find the lines are alittle too long but that's on an ek9.
Not massively too long but like 4-5" and means the lines don't sit nicely.

where did you get the kit from? Pm me if you want as I'm keen to get one ordered too
