Hello everyone,

I recently finished under sealing my EK9 and I thought that I would do a little write up on how I did it. The under seal that I used was Dinitrol Corromax (4 litres) and Dinitrol Car-4941 (4 litres) and was applied using a shultz gun.

I started off by removing the plastic mud guards and jet washing off the loose dirt in the arches at 60 degrees C. Once that was done I removed the wheels and blown dry with an air gun to remove the excess water from all the nooks and cranies, this took roughly and hour. i then began removing the existing under seal. For this I used white spirit and countless sponges and cloths lol.

As you can see there’s still a bit of the original under seal remaining but I scrubbed until my fingers were bleeding so I decided that was staying there.

I began to remove the rear bumper, exhaust back box (only snapped one bolt lol) b-pipe and the heat shields from the underside.

I then removed the side skirts and was amazed that there was not a single bit of rust to be found on the sills.

I then removed the front bumper, headlights and wings. It was then time for the masking up. I found this part very tedious.

Once all the masking up was done it was time for the first product (Corromax) to be applied all over the car. It was very messy and was very runny when it was applied so ended up dripping all over the floor. Once it was applied all over, I then left it over night, about 10 hours. After that time it looked like this.

As you can see its sets a brown colour and stays thick and tacky.

It was then time for the Dintirol Car-4941. This was a black colour and again was very messy but was much thicker than the Corromax so it didn’t end up dripping all over the floor. Again I left it over night for about 10 hours. Once it set, the colour went from a glossy black to more of a matt black but with some shine in it (if that makes any sense lol) and also stayed tacky.

I removed the newspaper and this is what it looked like.

I then was going to cover the front end with hammerite but what I thought was enough turned out not to be so I only had enough at the time to do just the cross member.

Once I built the car back up I gave her a wash, T-Cut and Maguire’s 3 stage treatment and took a few photos of her when she was all done.

All in all it was a new experience to me as I’ve never under sealed a car before but after reading a few ‘how to under seal’ threads on here it wasn’t too bad at all, so thank you ek9.org. I’ll check up on it in 6 months to see how it’s holding out. I’ve still got to waxoyl the inside of the car but that’s a job for when the cars back home and I’ll also finish of the front end with hammerite.

I hope you enjoyed reading it and next month I’ll finally be insured on the EK9 :D

Thanks again,

Ryan.

Great job you done there mate car looks fresh :)

God job mate. Personally i think this is vital for any old car. May take a while but its worth it. The weather we get in the UK is no good for Hondas. They just rust away to nothing.

Cracking job! How long should a treatment of underseal last until it needs doing again?

From start to finish i spent 6 days on the car buts its defo worth the while and peace of mind. Actually applying the underseal only took about 40 mins for both products, it's just the prep work that takes the time. Im not sure how long is should last for untill it needs doing again. I guess its down to how much its driven and what weather condintions its driven in but i do know people tend to top it up every year or so.

good job man, dont think i'd have the patience for all that prep work though

ive was trying to find out about this yeaterday in my thread
thanks for the write up
looks well

Great job! An equally great wright up aswell!

Will defo help people out! :))

great job mate hat off to u for doing it urself i do undersealing as a part time hobby and its a bloddy nightmare not because its hard just time consuming

looks like a great job u have done

Credit to you Jordan and all others who do undersealing as a part/full time job. I didn't mind it too much because it was my car and you tend to be like that with your own motor lol but to do it as a living......

No Thanks lol.
