My Grey ZN6 GT86

I think that there is room for more power from the toyotas...that is all im sayn

I took a pearl white one out with a mate the week they started taking orders, and came to the conclusion, its good looking, not very fast and at around 27k for one that you would actualy want its to expensive.

When you consider that now-a-days that for almost exactly that cash will buy you:
RS Megane (a cup edition will cost you more!)
Focus ST
Golf GTi (the basic one)
Astra VXR
So pretty much bang on money for a new Civic Type R too when it arrives I'd expect.

So.... not all that expensive when you consider it.

And it's not special, but it is harking back to an era that you guys should be used to with your EKs. Not all out grip, but about handling and feel. In a world where more is seen to be better, this has been stripped back for the better. If you're undecided, go drive one :nice:

But all of these cars you list adleast manage to break under 7s to 60 and will have more torque

All turbocharged aswell.
Each to ther own, it's probably a really good car. No doubt I'll be surprised if or when I get a ride in one.

Yea all turbocharged, this seams to be the way the market is atm to get power.

If its not trying to be "fast" then what is it trying to be because it sure isnt a family saloon.

The turbo one they're doing should be good though.
Surpose its not all about specs and figures, which is what knight is trying to say

Yea fair enough, its a very good looking car. I heard toyota arn't boosting but subaru have somthing in the pipeline. When you look under the bonnet its all subaru badges any way.

The car is about being fun to drive , not like that list of joker FF cars above .. chasing nurburgring times is bollix and pushing cars in the wrong direction.

Its a costly car for Toyota/Subaru to package in this day and age , and from what I hear closely , their making little from it.

If those cars are joker ff cars then what new cars do you think are more fun to drive?

A car that seems to be made to create a market. I hope I am wrong with this, but I think it will not be around for very long. Good looking slow car tho!

Very few if any , Clio RS springs to mind . My point is those manufacturers are all so keen on setting new records on the ring , they have totally forgot about the fun side of a car . Huge section tyres and too much power.. so much now you cant drive them at 100% on the road.

Hot hatches now are filling the performance saloon market that once was there..

But at least Toyota/Subaru had the courage to push their car through to production without a Nurburgring time in the advertisement... it says a lot.

Okay so the clio rs and gt86 are good drivers cars. Thats not much of a list.

If i could drive any car at 100% i'd say the car is poor. I'm no race driver.

Why is the ring such a bad place to test a car? Surely if its fast on what used to be a toll road and is now track itll be fast on other roads?

Because it creates a car that is designed only to chase numbers and lap times. Look how far the hot hatch market has come in the last decade. Honda was the 1st to push 200bhp into a hatchback which was deemed alot. Now they're all pushing 250bhp+ and you can see there's a war going on. It's not always the fastest that is the most fun or best to drive. Also, look at the FN2 after the EP3. Honda saw that as progress, almost none of us did!

I find it funny that the GT86/BRZ is seen to be slow. I'll repost the dyno at the bottom of the FA20 vs K20. The 0-60 times are only a touch slower than pretty much any of the Type Rs to date (around 7 seconds) and above 60 I'd expect simillar results, if not better as the FA20 is more torquey. The weight difference between an EP3, FN2 and GT86 is also minimal. It's slow in comparison with modern boosted lumps, but then the reason that the twins aren't boosted is so that the throttle response is kept pin sharp.... just what you want in a real drivers car. Again, exactly the reason why Honda denied following the trend of going boosted.

All these things, plus the low centre of gravity (lower than a Porsche Cayman!), low-ish weight and a tyres and wheel combo that grips enough to be quick, but allows slip to have fun at decent and not law breaking speeds is a real winner. I've said before, if all you want is high hp and the fastest lap times, then the GT86/BRZ isn't the car for you in it's standard form (it's a great platform to work from though). But I can tell you all that it already has put more smiles on my face than my B18'd EK9 did. Yup the EK was faster, but for me the Toyota is the better car.

Anyway, here's the dyno print:

Dark red is K20 - Light red is FA20

I think alot of people on here would argue that the b18 ek9 would have been a better drivers car.

My question is, if the dyno print outs are that similar why do the cars have such diffrent performance figures?

I would say the fn2 was moving forward, they made a fast car with less expensive parts.

All i am saying is what i felt when i drove it.
Which is the engine isnt particularly exiting,
i kept hitting my head on the head rest,
the dash wasn't exactly 2012
but it was a very nice looking car.

Probably so, but then we are on an EK9 forum ;) Also, I bet that most of them haven't been out for a drive in the new car. One of the guys on the GT86OC has sold his E92 M3 to get a GT and he says he prefers it..... I would have thought that the M3 would be seen as a pretty decent driver's car too.

The performance figures aren't that dis-similar. Gear ratios may play a part, obviously the Type R is geared for the higher RPM that the K20 offers. On a track I'd image the GT would hold the edge though.

I agree that the engine lacks the aural appeal of the B/K series. I miss the revs, but love the low down torque that the car has. Makes for an easier day to day car. Not sure why about the headrest, not heard that one before. Again, agree about the dash but it's a leap on from the EK.

I had my '9 for the best part of 6 years and I loved almost every minute in it. You hear a lot of people move away and then come back to the fold.... I personally have found my perfect replacement :nice:

Each to their own. I know I've bought a car that a lot of people don't get and I'm fine with that. I DO get it.... alot and that's all that matters. Now I'm just waiting for Toyota to start organising these trackdays for us in the new year.

Fair enough, hope you're happy with it. Also there's some cool TRD stuff aswell
