My B20 EK9 (Now 250bhp+)

Dunc - No girdle was fitted, but it did have B18 sump and oil pick up so a little strange. Also there was no form of PCV on the motor at all so not ideal really, this is something we will address on rebuild.

RE the crank, Its pretty bad around main journal 3 not quite a 1mm deep as such but still a noticable depth to it, I'm going to grind it 50thou and see how that looks/measure once done and make the decision then, all though ive got a feeling another crank may be needed. I have a B18c4 crank here which is in VGC, and with some lightening and balancing would be very nice in Lee's motor.

I finally identified the cams 100% and unfortunatly they are oem EK9 cams. How ever when you consider the power/torque the car was making its very impressive for the minimal spec, the ported head certainly helps with this.

The way the japanese build B20's is different to how we do it in the west, however they have converted the head the same way I do to utilise OEM style head gaskets, so no need for silly expensive head gaskets. Good old mr H will be fine for the rebuild.

The motor was generally quite fresh inside and a quick hone of the bores will bring them up to scratch (pardon the pun) nicely.

Rob Walker does all our Machining work and has the crank at the moment, so early next week i will know where we stand.

Its a nice EK9 to add to the EK( fraternity we have down here at EHM with 10 on the book now. and 5 of them are B20 (OR b19)

Bit gutted I only got 700 miles from the engine before I noticed an issue.
Risk of buying a second hand engine i suppose.

Sorry I should have been more clear.

Does the crank or the block look like it has been machined or adapted in any way to fit the b18 crank or does it look like a dirrect bolt in fit??

P.s im not questioning the engine or its origins, im just intregued to how the b18 crank fits in, as it could be a good option for me to make a b20 revable.

Daz is on this thread now, ask away...

nothing wrong with regrinding a B18 crank, when i built my engine, had the mains reground 0.25 and all journals including rod journals micropolished and it's been spot on! of course depends on how good the machine shop are and how bad the crank is (couple of extremely minor scores on mine, no spun bearings)

a new B18 crank will sting you at least 800 quid, believe the work on my crank cost about 150 iirc which included having it balanced

Decided i am going for a second hand b18 crank, micropolished knife edged and fully balanced.

Also on the cards this year -

2x FIA Buckets
HSD Coilovers
Full cage

Still on the fence, won't I need an updated valve train to run them?

Great looking car!
I too have plans of dropping a b20z into my hatch in the future

I have a set of Skunk 2 stage 2 cams, tiainium retainers and springs for sale. Really good cams for getting power out of. My old b18 dc2 made just shy of 250bhp with a set of these.

You going to take these Lee?
Really tempted by these myself even though I've told myself I'm going to spend zero on my car this year.

Little bit of info on this engine for interested people!
The engine is actually a 1.9! Using b20 BE, b18 rods and Toda pistons and ek9 cams.
Makes the output even more impressive.

2 weeks to go.

I tell the builder im not bothered about getting it back till better weather in april, and we get torrential rain!

Pick up the car friday just in time for japfest.

New toy!

Should be about 235 160. Was 228 and 147

Got 800 miles of running in to do now, loads of people have said it doesn't need it due to not having new piston rings, but DNR have done loads of these.
