K20 running problems HELP

I have never seen faulty TPS to cause a missfire. Idle hanging and some driveability issues at small throttle openings are symptoms though!

Edit- And if the tps does turn out to be faulty along with whatever other issues your having which is causing the missfire buy the K-tuned billet replacement tps as all the other's are rubbish.

check ur tps sensor mate, this has happened to vince i think twice now. OEM tps sensors are prone to failure on K20's.

Not good news.

We have water in the oil.... Don't know what to do now...

Is it head gasket... Is it a crack in the head?

Water bottle is empty and oil filler cap looks like mayonnaise....

Feel like I have been fudged big time!

That seems ok.

What exactly did you check to say water is in the oil ?

Do you have oil in the coolant ?

It is running very rough.

There was a thick milky residue in the cam cover and under cap. All the water is gone from the rad bottle.

Coolant looks ok and the inside of the hoses looks fine also. We checked the port coming off from the head was fine. Ran the car around the estate and the cap was soaked with water again.

Milky residue might just be condensation if the engine hasnt been ran at full temperature.

Next step would be a coolant pressure test . Did you check the plugs ? Any signs of a single cyl. misfire ?

No the missfire had dissapeared today. When I ran it up so was unable to determine a single cylinder we tried another set of plugs to which no change.

Going to run it up tomorrow with the rad cap off to check for bubbles.

Even then I have no idea what I'll do after that

All the new plugs look the same ? are they fouled ?

You will need the rad cap on for the coolant to pressurise ..! So a coolant pressure tester is needed .

And check the TPS while your at it if you can ~0.5volts closed to ~4.5v fully open .

Dont lose heart yet..

All the plugs are fine no fouling what do ever.

I'm not convinced its the TPS. I will check it at the weekend anyway. Nothing has explained the masses of smoke that bellowed out the car yesterday. Twice... I'm certain it's head related. Not seen the milky residue before and I check things pretty regularly.

Its good to rule it out though . If the smoke only happened twice Id nearly say its more an intermittent ignition/fuel misfire but then again its hard to diagnose this stuff over the net.

As said get a coolant pressure test done , with a bar of pressure and the engine running you will tell if the headgasket is gone by the gauge.

Ok that's next step just not sure what to do after that. How I go about repair... Do it myself or who can I take it too...

It is head gasket or a cracked head. We have froffy bubbles in the rad when thermostats opens.

What a pain in the ass mate. That must be your problem then... Strange to hear a HG fail on a stock K20. Maybe it overheated in the past or something, that would als explain the oil consumption if so...

That's unfortunate, I was hoping it would be something else! I would do it myself, it's going to be much cheaper that way, it's not difficult just time consuming which is what makes it expensive. The only thing you will need someone to do is to have the head pressure tested and skimmed. And also make sure you have a good torque wrench for putting it back together again!

£1000 to repay so far.
If its only the gasket and not a cracked head

Very unfortunate man , would you consider doing the work yourself ?

had very similar problems with my k20 ek9 and its was the tps failing hard to get one 2nd hand thats in good condition aswell order a new hybrid racing one !
