Yep.
Got the gearbox oil in today, got abit of time to clean up the interior plastics(what plastics are left) just a Hoover and the interior is back up to scratch again. Outside won't be that easy!

Jesse, id keep an eye out on your oil cooler fittings. They are meant to have the braid in the fitting, but you have "peeled" yours back. Think I would have just spent the money on the correct fittings for the hose.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for any issues.
The hose was very tight even without the braid but as you say could be worth buying correct fittings.
I struggled to find 12an to 1/2bsp fittings in 90degree.

The inner side of the hose was perfect against the inside of the fitting, but the hose wall was really thick!
Either way will have afew friends looking about for leaks etc

When I was getting the fuel fittings for my fuel line I had the choice of size for either plastic or rubber inner hose. Possibly they have supplied fittings for the plastic tube as the Id of the fittings is a lot smaller?
You are right though trying to get the different adaptions is a right ball ache. I found hose fittings UK to be mega helpful

I'll have a look, though tbh from the tugging and pulling i did and the struggle I had to get them on I'm highly doubting they'll leak.
Worth checking though so will have a set of eyes on that.

FWIW i used Speedflow fittings and lines. Expensive yes, but seriously good quality.

Jesse, if they do leak, itl be when there is abit of pressure behind them. When you have got the taps open, bombing down the road!

Will look at speed flow, measure the hose diameter aswell while I'm there.
Could be cheaper to buy new hose lol

So abit of an update.
Started the engine! Couldn't get idle at first and had to hold it on the accelerator, turned out I had the wrong plug on the iacv(PAS and IACV have the same plug)
Here's a video of the very first start thanks t0 @Matt-EK9
Had abit of smoke for the first mile or so and now I can't see anything out the back window so seems all right on the front.
Have alittle crankcase pressure it seems but not causing any ill effect that I've noticed yet.
I'm 117miles into the engine so plenty of time for things to go wrong!
First problem I've got is the engine wouldn't build temp at all. Half hour journey and the engines at 60c max! Turns out the thermostat got stuck so replaced that along with both coolant temp sensors from @eternal blue 2000 . The oem gauge has never worked so thought it was time I got it going.
The fan is the next issue I'm yet to solve. It comes on at 75c which is obviously too low as the thermostat doesn't open till 78c.
I've replaced the two sensors mentioned already and I've got a spare fan switch that I've tried already. Even with the switch unplugged the fan comes on at 75c so this leads me to believe that the ecu is the culprit of this.
I'm thinking cut the wire and put billet connectors on or something so I can disconnect it for now and then use it when I get the final tune, am I likely to have any issues from cutting the FANC wire on my p28 @Vtec6000 ?

Next question is for anyone that run their own engines in or has any experience in this, what time should I do the first oil change? I'm at 117 ATM and thinking it should be due or overdue by now? I've got everything ready to go just wanted to sort the cold running and fan issues out first.

By the time i done 100 miles i had changed the oil twice. 1st change at 2 miles. Pretty much around the block and dropped it. Then again at 100 miles

Haha whoops
Seems to be okay ATM. Will drop it tomorrow and see how it looks.
Did you find anything in your first change? Like metal obviously

Didnt find anything. I just dropped it just to circulate oil and pick up any debris that might have been in there.

Good work, its always nerve racking starting an engine for the first time!

The video made me laugh with the comment "suspiciously fine" and the experts standing by waiting for something to go bang lol

As mentioned def drop the oil now and put some fresh stuff in, then change it again after another certain amount of miles, experienced engine builders will be able to tell you when to change for the 2nd time

Nice one guys, will cut that FANC wire and drop the oil today. Was planning on going upto like 600miles total with the next oil change(so 500miles). I'm on mineral oil ATM and it's going well.

I had cheapo tesco mineral oil in until about 200 miles then swapped to some castrol 10w40. Pretty sure mines was mapped at 400 odd miles with millers 10w60 at the time.

Great sence of pride I bet knowing that it started so easy!

Hurry and get the running in done!

So cut the FANC wire on the ecu, fan issue sorted lol
Tidied up my battery setup as it was abit messy before, just a cheap powervamp pvr22 battery. Does the job though and is nice and light compared to the full size battery.

Then did the oil change, got the filter off and it looked pretty dry inside. Cut the filter open and the filter element was wet and had brown oil on it so must have been getting oil. Probably paranoia. Will keep an eye on it.
The filter also had a rubber ring that seemed to be blocking the outer holes of the filter. I've never noticed this before with these filters but been told this is normal?

Oil defo getting to the element

Small amount of swarf on the sump plug, not too worried about this considering it's the first change, checked mileage was actually 123miles since rebuild with ALOT of idle time because of the temp and fan issues(not ideal but that's what it is)

Going to get another full sized filter, running shortie filters ATM but I think a full size one is a better idea while I'm running it in. Will replace the filter after another 100niles and see how it looks. Want to keep an eye on these filters for now.

Keep an eye in crankcase pressure causing oil leaks, you have a vented block and rocker cover dont you?, that should be enough. Good luck to you mate it will be worth it soon enough!
