Hi,
I have a b16b engine that is going into my coupe.

what kinda work will i need to do to reach 200bhp?

i want to do this without stroking the engine to 1.8!

is there any head work i could do..cams etc??

or is 200 bhp even possible from n/a b16b

My brother is building his B16b at the moment for rallying and he's hoping for 200-220 BHP with headwork.

If its not even in there yet, why not just put a JDM b18 in there? once you sell the b16 and buy that it wont cost much at all, and your a lot closer to your target on a standard engine.

Surely a no brainer?

oh i no that man , just want to get aas much as i can from the 1.6, something of a challenge..dnt want go 1.8:)

People that say this annoy me. What actual difference does it make whether you have a 1.6 ora 1.8? except of course, one will be faster.

no replacement for displacement.

I would say some stage 2 cams and supporting valve springs+retainers and full supporting mods i.e full I/H/E will see you 200bhp with a good tune. Larger throttle body also would be another thing to add to that list.

sure i just want to do it as no one locally has it done man, 200bhp with b18 is easy and loads around

But it wont make any difference lol. The engines look the same and unless you drive around with a massive sticker saying 1.6 on the side of your car noone will know either. Money you would spend would make a much faster car if it was 1.8

You could get your own b16b TB bored out to a larger size either.

ITB's can give some good gains but to make the most of them you would need to tunnel a cold air feed from bumper to back of engine. Alot of heat will be radiated in that area between engine and firewall which is why on the likes of toyota's 20v quad throttle body setup they enclose the trumpets in a large chamber enclosure which gets its air feed from a airbox located at front of car.

Have you been out in an EK9 with both engines? Cause there is quite some difference between the way they feel when driving!!

The B18, although more powerful, just feels that much more lazy. Whilst with the B16 it just feels like you're always wringing its neck. Definately a more agressive VTEC changeover in the B16 too.

Hence why I'll be staying B16. Even if it is slightly slower, I just prefer the feel. I can just jump on my bike when if I really want to go faster...

Anyways, the moral of the story is, rather than be pointlessly annoyed, please understand that people have their own reasons for doing things.

As mentioned, more to a car than POWER.........

I've improved the breathing on my engine and fitted a generic aftermarket ECU, tbh that's plenty for me, keep it very well serviced and running tip top

MUCH MUCH rather spend money on the chassis in the form of suspension bits and brakes, more fun
