Final plans to finish my motor

A lot of time & hard earned spent Ian, I'm in the same place, the Kswap although running perfectly, looks like it will be going for different reasons, very frustrating.

I thought I saw you saying this the other day, I got confused. Sad to see it go, I'll bet. Hopefully you'll find a way around it mate.

Ian, I must admit a standard k with some gearbox mods is way better than my old built b20. If I had the 2nd chance to go back, I know what I'd would of chosen.

I'm just thinking to myself now, what If I get the K20 built... or even k22, although I'm not after power now.

Its a really **** situation to be in Ian, you spent alot of moolar, you have an engine that isn't performing how it should given the spec, not to mention it shits it self every time you change the oil.

If it was me, I would not hesitate to take the engine to AME motorsport in Silverstone, this is where Wazer had his B20 done, and the results speak for themselves. I don't know if AME outsourced the headwork but it provided fantastic results.

For reasons which I don't understand you don't like Romain, but he is an amazingly intelligent guy with great skills when it comes to tuning, just take a look at his 400WHP+ K24 supercharged CRX which is tuned himself which runs flawlessly at time attack. He'll know where you need to improve certain parts of your setup

I know people say Dynos are different bla bla, but even on a proper dynodynamics i made more power than you did with toda cams , and i'm running stock EK9 valvetrain. Not just talking "peak power", I had a linear power curve and the torque curve was great.

The AEM intake has to go, get a proper header for the application, a bodged up mugen manifold is **** imo, get a proper big tube tri-Y for a 1.8L-2L application with proper 2 inch primaries.

Don't forget the re tune as well mate. With the right header you should be able to pull a nice bit of more power out of it.

to be fair i was in a similar situation to yourself

i sold all my B18 stuff which funded the K swap - don't know why i didn't just K swap it in the first place as it is a ****ing brilliant engine, with some breathing & gearbox mods, unreal

i then just kinda lost the love for it all, the car became an obsession - selling up and taking almost a year out from fettling cars was probably one of the best things i did!!!

back in the game again with the M3 and loving having a fresh new project to play about with, RWD is an awful lot of fun

as much as i would hate to see another EK9 parted out or sold up, it is a very good option

As much as i would hate to see anotha ek9 enthusiast selling up as you hav been around since i came on th forum over 5 years ago Ian, but what Steven is saying could be a good option for you. You could end up spending alot more money and still not like it. Doesnt matter what power figures, rev limit, etc you have or make the bottom line is do you enjoy and trust driving th car??

In my heart I fancy a FD2, DC5 or S2000...

Just not sure which to get, part of me thinks gut the EP3 stick a cage in it and seats plus coilovers job done! Hassle free cheap track toy...

I don't think I love my 9 anymore it's to much hassle and heart ache. Wish I had kept the B16b and done other stuff.

Sell the engine and stick a standard b16b in there. A few basic breathing mods and a gear set and your done. I think you would be disappointed with an EP3 as a track car. Either that on an FD2.

I drove a mates FD2, and it is as good as they say, it's newer, fast as frik looks hard and has no rattles. like me you've done the B series thing, good or bad, maybe try a K. Saying all this and i still cannot decide what i want to do. What does the missus think?

I know the feeling mate, but if you dont use you EK9 over the winter, you'll get back into it and love it. I've not driven my toy in a year, generally because i kinda lost interest but am itching to get back in it now.

As a track toy and i say this from experience as i have owned many Honda's, you will not be happy with a EP3 unless it is a JDM model even then, on track you want to feel that rawness, and you have to go to the extreme to get that out of a EP3/DC5/FD2/ATR, where by the DC2 & EK9 are alot more involving imo. I thought the S2000 was abit pants to be honest, i bought one, sold it 7 days later, althought i did go from a 400hp Mid Rear to the S2000.

If it's just because your cars not making the power it should, which it sounds like, and you dont want to put anymore cash into it, then maybe work our cost to sell, then buy a new toy, then modify that. Surely it might be worth getting your car tweeked.

I'll send you a PM regards, engine / exhaust / mapping, i have friends who can most certainly help.

FD2 is far superior to the EK9 in every way - drove my dads one enough to realise this (including a track day)

stiffer chassis
quicker steering with more feedback
etc etc

an FD2 doesn't need any chassis work, out of the factory they are awesome on track. it's only the weight deficit you need to worry about - with some sticky tyres and better brake pads though you can carry so much speed

eventually fit a JRSC and job done, will overtake most things on track

this was a track day i did in an FD2 running vredestein road tyres and **** brake pads - car only had a mugen airbox and tweak on hondata flashpro

for reference the EK in front was running a very short box / 250bhp B22 / stripped and caged (sub 1000kg) / full slicks

Out of interest Steven, did Honda see sense and fit the FD2 with hydraulic PAS or have they just finally managed to engineer some feel into the electic system?

the FD2 is hydro PS, the steering feel was exceptional, very short but a good weight to it :nice:

I can't see the video for some reason. I think I have one more year out the 9 and ep3 then it's decision time.

get a sensible car n a 1k car for track ie mg180 n plob b16 in it cheap n less to worry about on track! have to say i dont regret getting rid of mine can always get a chepo track car in future,

Sorry to hi jack the thread here. I'll use your thread...

It is currently my opinion but I would like it making power up to 9k so I can feel "hey it's complete" I am thinking if she pop then it's time to part.

I see.... like I've said - a sick header will open it up. Are those cams more mid range than top end though ? I can't remember.... try calling TODA EUROPE (TDI PLC) and ask for their opinion. They are EXTREMELY helpful and will put you right. Mention your setup to them and what you want from it...

if the custom intake from solid fab is stainless steel then i wouldnt bother as its only going to retain heat. Solid fab does do custom manifolds too but again mayb worth avoiding my mate bought 3" collector one for his rotrex ep3 thinking good upgrade but on recieval the pipes of his spoon 4-2 2-1 were actually bigger so sent the solid fab one back

get a b series tegiwa enclosed intake with a custom silicone hose from intake to throttle body?

why are you restricted to 8k exactly?

or another idea which i would do is just take it on the chin and sell your 9 and buy a rotrex kit for your ep3, after driving my mates one at 390bhp i now have an ep3 and sold my teg.
