Engine Flush???

Every 3k? Damn its going to be expensive, as this bottle of 5L 0w40 Mobil1 aint cheap at £40 lol

I do it every 4k miles, even the local honda dealer recommends this.

Why?

Because the distances here are very very short, just imagine if I drive 350 km north I'm in mexico hahaha. And 90% of the time the car runs on a "stop and go conditions". And also my country every corner has a damn mountain hahaha.

Honda considers "severe conditions" (taken out from a civic manual)

Follow Severe Maintenance Schedule ifyou drive your vehicle MAINLY under one or more of the following conditions:

  • Driving less than 5 miles ( 8 km) per trip or, in freezing temperatures, driving less than 10 miles (16 km) per trip.
  • Driving in hot (over 90 F or 32 C) conditions.
  • Extensive idling or long periods of stop and go driving.
  • Driving with vehicle-top carrier, or driving in mountainous conditions.
  • Driving on muddy, dusty or de-iced roads.
What you need to do if you drive your car in severe conditions:

  • Replace engine oil and oil filter every 3,750 miles (6,000 km) or 6 months.
  • Check engine oil level and coolant at each fuel stop.
  • Inspect valve clearance at 30,000 miles (48,000 km) only.
  • Replace spark plugs every 30,000 miles.
  • Replace transmission fluids every 30,000 miles.
  • Replace brake fluid every 45,000 miles.
  • Inspect front and rear brakes every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 6 months.
  • Tie rod ends, sterring gear box, and boots suspension componets, driveshaft boots every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 6 months.
In my country Honda Severe Conditions Maintenance apply. Maybe in the UK this conditions don't apply :nice:

I get my stuff from opie oil's & it's cost me £97 delivered to my door every time!
& for that i get:-

5 litres of Castrol Magnatec 10w-40
UFI oil filter
Denso Iridium Tough Spark Plugs -4 pack
Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80 synthetic MTF -3Litres

I would say is a good service @ every 3000 - 4000mile's
& i presonaly think that is a small price to pay to keep my pride & joy Health!:nice:

tell me you dont change your gearbox oil every 4k
thats just plain silly, what a waste of money?

just to note, the quality oils may be great and not break-down (level of protection they offer) fr ten thousand miles but the carbon build-up in the oil is unavoidable

To be honest mate i may not change the gear oil every service, but i do most of the time!
Because i do have a slight crunch going into 3rd on my gearbox & it seem's to help by keeping the oil fresh!
I know i should get it sorted but, untill i have the money to do a proper build on the box i wont be opening it up!

i do my gearbox oil at the same time as engine oil evry 3k...mtf isnt expensive so mite as well do it if it keeps the gearbox healthy too:nice:

i do not agree with engine flush. if the engine is bad it should be rebuilt, if the engine is running fine leave it alone.

My SPOON also recommended to change the gearbox oil at the same time as the engine oil.

The engine oil is cooled and pumped around the engine, but the transmission oil just sits there getting heated up, so gets worked more.

However, this discussion was in relation to track driving.

And some of you wonder why transmissions develop the problems that they do.

I don't see a problem changing it LESS frequently than 4k - IF you also tend to drive easy on the car. Personally and possibly like many others, I tend to beat the living shiet out of my cars.

So every engine oil change or every other engine oil change, I change the transmission fluid.

That is exactly what i do with mine!
Didnt think i was wrong in doin this!:nice:
