Ek9 vs ep3 vs astra vxr

iv beatin a jdm ep3 wit my eg6 sir wit jus a cat back an fidanza flywheel...an wit my current set up now of full exhaust system J's racin induction kit fidanza flywheel an hondata s300 ecu iv blown the same ep3 off the road an he got 3 lenghts on me before i put the foot down an i caught him an passed him out easily..he had a catback an induction kit in the ep3

I had a race with a uk ep3 (ive got an ek9 just some crappy induction and 5zigen exhaust) and i won, it was pretty much a straight line along a ring road. I dont know about the vxr though dnt know the specs of them. But a JDM ep3 vs an ek9, ep3 everytime i would have thought.

yes my point exactly, ep3 is actually very quick, you see on bestmotoring they are for some reason faster than dc5 type r.(no idea why) but definately has a slight edge over the integra.

my mate has a VXR, and I tell you, those things aint slow. IIRC, the factory quoted 0-60 was 5.2 secs - certainly quick enough to take a standard Type R.

But your talking 1.6 NA / 2.0 NA / 2.0 Turbo - no comparison when it comes to the blown motor. Although saying that, I had a fair pop at a scooby WRX one time.. Just goes to show the EK9's ability against much bigger cars.

I'd like to see a a proper comparison between the EK9 and the EP3 though..

My uncle has a JDM EP3 and I can vouch that the Ep3 (if driven properly) is much faster than some on this forum make it out to be. We frequently give them a good drive on a drag strip.

EK9 (mine) mods:
Induction - Simota CAI
Exhaust - DCS mani, de-cat pipe.
Gearbox - Fidanza flywheel, MFactory gearset.
Suspension - Skunk2 coilovers

EP3 mods:
Induction - Simota CAI
Exhaust - Spoon mani, spoon decat and spoon N1 axelback.

It all goes well until 3rd gear, I easily keep up but when I hit 4th he gets infront by about a car's length.

I also believe that a stock EK9 would not beat a stock UK-spec Ep3 in a straight line.

Oh im not talking about the JDM EP3, im talking about UK spec.

Even so i think the JDM model on UK fuel wouldnt produce much more then 210BHP which isnt huge amounts more really....

What sort of times do these JDM models put down? As driving the car would appear to feel faster due to the extra torque, but in reality isnt as much as it seems....

Out of interest what octane is Japanese fuel?

we should settle this with a race :D

i dont have any of the formentioned cars. but im sure someone has a standard version or knows someone with a standard version.

do a quarter mile, a longer distance one and one round a track. that will settle it for sure.

it would make a great youtube video :nice:

yeah its either 100 or 101 octane they use, does make a fair bit of difference though.....

@jpar196 im doing the calculations by knowing that a FWD car normally looses around the figure of 15% tansmission loose from crank to wheel horse power... I know numbers are just indications, but if you say you cant pull from a stock 350Z and/or a JDM EP3 then i can tell you, that your figures are well out matey. As said if your graph was true you should be canning them with that sort of power! Either that or your not driving the car to its potential......

Sorry, im not argueing or anything, i just wanted to understand, as i was very puzzled.....

There are always going to be mixed opinions as we are all different drivers and our cars are not all in the same condition, engine/power wise....

Good idea!

Something I've always wanted to see aswell is someone lending the stig their ek9 to take round the Top Gear track to see how how faired against other cars, especially the ep3 and fn2.

could do it any track day. but i would love to see it go round the top gear test track.

i emailed top gear to see if they would let us. they can only say no which they more than likely will. but if its a yes that will be interesting :D

stock vs stock no chance an ek9 will beat ep3. maybe with a stroker kit and I/H/E mods

I've beaten modded EP3's few times, just ones with similar mods to my ek9, i've 4.7 thought.
As for the astra, my friend hammer them in 1/4 mile always in dc2's but the ek9 just doesnt have enough to beat them towards the end...

ek9dan: no thats fine, I understand its hard to believe when you put the numbers back to back that I cant pull from a ep3 or 350. I havent raced a ep3 at the track yet but I would presume if stock I would pull away. Im similar with 350 but in the end he just has more top end after 140kph. The dyno sheet is probably reading a bit high, maybe by 10 kw or so, hence why I said Ill be in the region of 135kw give or take. the thing is Ive only had a chance to line the one 350z up for a pass and couldnt in a straight line, funnily enough one of our friends(differenct 350z) who spent thousands of dollars(cams, engine management, headers exhaust blahblah the works) putting out more than 200 kw atw, is no faster than the 350z Im talking about ? so I dont know whats happening there as well because the 350z I couldnt pass was stock with decat as far as i know. and the owner of the modded z was quite gutted eh

I would gladly lend my 9 to the stig. I reckon if we all email them then they've got to say yes! :s :nice:

yea think they would only use a stock 9.

i work 4 vauxhall and on paper the vxr is said to 0-60 in 6.2 but dont quote me on that.

my mate has a vxr and there is just 2 much power going to the front wheels they spin up into about 3rd gear if they were fitted with an lsd it would be a different story

Not many cars have LSD as standard do they?

you'll find most dont...

Only really the modern Sports cars will be equipped with one.. Of course there are exceptions, as some older cars do also, but most dont.

I cant believe my eyes! am i reading correctly? When my civic had a b16a2 i sat side by side with my friends astra vxr - maybe he couldnt drive it or i got the edge off the word go (and i imagine so as he got a 14.6 at drag strip and i'd doubt my car would have done that). UK Ep3's were always faster but not by much and i mean only pulling away after 125ish and even at that only just.

Since having the B18C6 put in my car - its a different beast - but i would have thought (apart from torque) my car would be similar now to EK9 power/weight as my VTi (209bhp @ fly 178@wheels) is heavier. And all i can say is - UK EP3 only had a go at one - didnt stand a chance! I had a wee go with a VXR and i pulled on him really fast but my car has JDM ECU and limited @ 120 odd so i ended up side by side - he went for it 1st so got a head start and then i caught him up quick!

Oh and i dont really seem to see what all the fuss is about the stock LSD in the wet in a straight line it does nothing for traction - in corners it is amazing but in a straight line does nothing - maybe in the dry it will be a different story!

agree 100% with everything said.

If i started neming the cars i have been even with, friends cars etc some people would definitely doubt.......

Saying that though i do thing you would pull quite a bit on a stock EK9 mate...
