EK9 Civic Type R - Race Base

personally i think it looks crap lol why bother stripping taht wouldnt it be more benificial to get a carbon bonnet and other carbon things.. then stripping the inside out and making it.. well just look crap basically. lol

Well, before i buy my EK9, I had a 1.5 L automatic civic hatch, having exactly the same interior except the gauge.

Hang on.....

Thats not a 98 Spec R your talking about are you???

The 98 Spec R still has Type R interior and chairs...

And yes it weighs 1050kg opposed to 1090kg.

I've seen video reviews of the 98 Spec R and they definitely have the Full interior. Thats some imposter!!!

Yes, but thats the "demo" one, there's a race base, i bought one but returned it because of a suspension problem :nice:

wow, thats the first time i've seen such a bummy ctr... lol

oh well, it IS the 98 Spec R though...

I dont think thats a proper ek9 chassis well interior anyway I have seen two types of ek9's one with all the electric windows etc. and the model without. they both have the red recardo's and same dash but the one with all the electrics is referred to as the JDM spec ek9

Honda Japan sell them like this ready for racing. The new stripped dc5's i have seen are just the same. They dont fit the heater box and dont even fit a LSD, guess they know all track cars will fit a full 2 way diff.
Dunx

yeh, no mod cons at all so little lighter and expectation that owners would strip whole interior and own steering wheel, seats, knob and even pedals fitted

ive been in one which was 1 of 1st that was brought into u.k (think it was 1 of 1st ek9 and beleive it was actual car tested by evo magazine), engine was fettled a little with odd mod and was 1 of sweetest b16 ive come across

although know who has it now i dont know the person so dont know whats been done to it now but imagine very careful/selective mods have been done

In this photo of the ek9 race base, I noticed it doesnt have that giant steel chassis brace in the middle of the car. I'm guessing that is because the ek9 seam welded chassis is stiff enough already.

It also doesnt seem to be an ek9 race base only thing, as this picture of dut's ek9 shows.

In this picture of my car stripped out, brace shown in gray.

ive been confused by that for a while as seen lots ok ek with it and some that dont, im just wondering whether it was added on 99-00 ek only

My car is a 97, so that theory is shot. I have noticed that ek9's dont seem to have it, as the 2 pics above show. I also noticed, after some searching, that european ek4's dont have it either, seen here---

So my final theory is that this brace is a USDM hatch only thing. Its probably for safety and longevity of the chassis, because we all know that honda would not put it on USDM civics for just performance..
What do you guys think, does anyone have an Si-r ek4 or an ek9 with this giant steel brace in the middle?

i saw ek last week with the brace here in u.k, rears seats also mounted different in some ek (again dont know if this was design change in 99-00) and looking at them pics the brace would cause seats to sit different than without it

the brace does seem to be for safety primarily but also gives additional chassis strength

ok, looked inti this further, checked few 98 and 99 models and spoke to couple people, appears 99 models only got that brace for additional safety, it weighs approx 10kg as well

This car was released i think in 1998. The car has no a/c, power windows, power steering.

It doesnt have the civic type r emblem near the radio. Some of them had the Civic type r logo at the back / right and left sides. The only part that has the civic type r logo is a the gauge cluster

The interior its just like a simple EK4, since the idea was to throw away all the interior, put a roll cage, and a bucket seat.

Engine is the same, b16b 185 hp.

They are very rare.

If someone can give more information about this car, it will be awesome. :D
