Decent mods

I am looking to do a few tweeks to my engine, any suggestions,

This car wont be used for track racing or that

I have bought an induction kit so far and full stainless

Cheers:nice:

I think you should build the top-end, to give you an idea of the costs...

*Valvtrain Kit £290 (Lightweight stainless valves, Higher performance dual springs, Retainers and new stem-seals).
*B-series stage-2 cams £275
*Adjustable cam gears £100
*Fuel Management (Hondata or AEM)
Optional
*IM porting is £250 (cut open, fully reworked then welded up) if you provide core, thisll always make more power than ITBs because you can have ram-air CAI straight to the intake pipe.

Thats just what Id do!

Some other options to consider that would be cheaper would be to use crome

It's not exactly "free" since you would want the PRO/Gold version that would enable datalogging and other nifty features. You also need a laptop and a wideband O2 sensor along with a burner. < C R O M E >

The S300 still costs more, but is neatly packaged inside the stock ECU - however you still need the laptop/wideband 02 to interface.

The same goes with the AEM which I will assume you're talking about the relatively new FI/C unit.

The Edelbrock Performer X has already proven itself to gain more in mild builds vs. the IBSpec ported unit at more or less half the cost. The IBSpec one has shown better gains in 2.0L builds.

Check out the thread in the 'Transmission' section "Gearbox build first impressions" - gives an idea of what the gears do & the costs.

Your right, The IBspec IM is OTT for mild headwork and is like you say; really suited to higher capacity/output motors like NA 300hp 2L builds or 260+hp 1.8's B18 builds its superb, on a B16b although definitely not essential it would be laying the foundations for when he eventually decides to re-work the block with a stroker kit or better still a B18 or B20 bottom-end. :nice:

Haha that may be true about the eventual prospect of working the bottom end with the many upgradeable options, but I would rather have my cake and eat it first...(so to speak) and get more gains by spending less.

When the time comes, he could easily sell the unit off - I'm sure some other EK9/DC2 owners would be interested in his "sloppy seconds" as it's proven to have effective gains on the B18Cs as well ;)

I reckon one thing at a time will do me:)

Thanks for the replys been helpfull :nice: head down ass up looking for parets now

yeah most bigger IMs and TBs work better with the bigger 1.8 and 2.0 engines.

Gearset would have to be the best mod for the torque insufficient 1.6s

I have to agree with MF and Jugbugz amongst others on here though, the gearset is hands-down the best bang for the $buck if you dont mind revving a little higher on the motorway.:nice:

If you have a 1.6, you have to rev the **** out of it anyway! lol
