Driving the other morning (cold weather) about 10 miles down the road, no loss of power, no funny noises, no warning signs at all. Under a light load accelerating, car died. No codes were thrown during this. Electrics still work, starter still tries to start the car, no clicks. The car will not turn over. Popped the hood, one of the plug wires fell off the distributor cap. Placed it back on cap. Wires are kinda old but not trash. Other than old loose or worn out wires, would anything else cause the wires to fall off the cap i.e. a fault or surge? Aside from checking spark (which I will do tomorrow) is there any other reasonable troubleshooting I can do to figure the starting issue out? Initial thoughts: Distributor. Is there a way to validate that this could be the culprit? Any help would be appreciated.
