This is quite amusing.
And it is reflective of how the community and the knowledge developed in North America.
You guys have no problems spending money on getting all the pretty damn expensive hard parts and yet here you are pondering about the differences that really matter and could potentially do a lot of damage to your entire setup.
Do it right. Get the proper ecu and don't listen to a garage that "reckon's it won't run lean." Why chance it after working so hard to get something you've been so excited about?
In the states, it's common practice to haul the car with a built motor and have a base map written safely on a dyno. I don't know what it costs to do this in the UK, but it is an expense that should be taken into account.
