my ek9 is having a b18c fitted from a 97 jdm dc2
for the second time!(long story:angry2:)
i ran the previous engine on a phearable ecu which i thought was rubbish made my car guzzle fuel and never idle properley constantly throbbing.
what do you think about running the engine on my standard ek9 ecu?
bearing in mind i wanted to take the car to santapod with this ecu and dont want the engine breaking.
if im going to use the teg ecu i have to buy a obd2b to obd2a harness because my car is facelift which costs like £100. they seem to be much more expensive than the obd2 to obd1 harnesses.
my other question is would i notice much difference if i was putting in a 98 spec engine bearing in mind that i wont be changing the final drive just the engine.

any help appreciated:nice:

i mite be wrong here but dont think you cant run it off the ek9 ecu as the stroke is different

I dont wanna open another thread on this but I also got a chipped ecu from phearable only a week ago and I just wanna warn everyone on here to stay well clear there ecu's are rubbish and a total waste of almost €400 by the time I had paid customs who charged me €60 to release it.
With this ecu I lost power and where they set the vtec point was to early I could feel a drop in power when it enagaged and the car felt like it was down on torque througout the rev range and again as Rice said about his car's idle I had the same problem the car really struggled when cold. All I can say is I appreciate the standard ecu alot more now and wish I spent my money on some other performance upgrade instead of a performance down grade:angry:

thanks for the info on the ecus. might be worth ur while opening a new thread cos i think there is alot of interest in these.

@Rice- i dont think the b18 would run well with the standardrd ek9 ecu. why not just the ecu from the dc2??

I'm seeing a lot of comments about the phearable ecus not working well. Specially for the UK people, a friend of mine here had the same problem. I think we need to create a thread about this issue.

The rev limiter in the ek9 ecu is different from the dc2, so I don't recommend it, I'm pretty sure your B18C can handle 8900 RPM with out any problems, but I want to recommend you to use a standard dc2 ecu just to make your setup reliable, also, you can use a aftermarket ecu. I'm not recommending a phearable ecu right now, since some users and a friend of mine had a issue with the ecu.

Thread created:D

Ive done the b18cr conversion also, running factory ITR ecu ? why dont you just get a factory ITR ecu ?

because my car is facelift it runs a obd2b ecu which is unique to only the facelift ek9. all b18c dc2's 96 and 98 spec run on obd2a so i need a harness.
not only does this harness cost £85 with postage but have been told its gonna take two weeks.
JDM Performance - Boomslang Fabrication OBD2B to OBD2A Conversion Harness
this is the only uk website i have found to sell this harness.
do you reckon it will be alright if i just take it easy with the 9 ecu till i can get the harness
oh and i do have a teg ecu ready for when i get the harness

any help appreciated :nice:

Im sure if you drive it easy till you get the conversion harness then it will be fine.

I agree, the problem is that I doubt that he can resist the temptation of flooring it lol

thats my worry having b18c power its going to be really tempting.
my car is having the engine from a 97 dc2 would it of made much difference had i used a 98 spec engine?
although its too late now anyway:)

Hmmmm not that much, just a little more torque, and a 4-1 header :nice: but the newer the better :)

Normally Vtec point should be lefted alone with stock cams, you just loose power @ transition, Some local guy here has TODA C on his B16A, and he had to raise the VTEC point to 7000rpm because the high profile cams didn't work well below that, whereas the low cams did and made more power. But mate, when the Vtec kicked in, it cracks your head back and has the loudest VTEC transition ever.

The only engines that work well with lowering the vtec point is the K-series, because they have VTC and VTEC, you can kick vtec in at 3000rpm and still make more power after tuning!...lol B-series don't work well with high profile cams operating at low revs simply because theres no Variable timings there to create enough flow to make power. :nice:

AFAIK some of the late 99 and 2000 ITR models run OBD2B

i have orered the conversion harness and should arrive shortly.
been speaking to a local tuner and he reckons that the ek9 ecu wont run lean but will infact add extra fuel to compensate for the larger capacity of the b18c.
so basically he is telling me i can still thrash my car with the ek9 ecu but im worried it could damage my engine?

the thing is its soo tempting cos i want to see how fast my 9 goes with a b18c

i have the exact same problem mate, are you running urs on the b18c yet? also where did you order the harness from and how longs it taking?

Also my garage seem to think it will run fine because of the b16b running higher compression?
