2015 Civic Type R, how would you modify it?

I'm interested to see what novice drivers can get out of it on track, like can my ek9 compete with this new R with two novice(non pro)drivers behind the wheel.

Exhaust, remap etc. Maybe even downsize the wheels to 18s. Possibly switch out seats to solid buckets. Not much downside being 4dr. Skeet at ditching the sound proofing.

Think I recall seeing a weight figure around the 1290kg area but not sure on that one. Could have been a dream though lol.

Then just buy some shares in S Unleaded, spare tyres, brakes and just enjoy.

Overall look isn't that bad and I love the performance and interior, but even for me the whole car looks a bit over the top.
'Fast and Furious' and 'streetracer' were the first things that came to mind when I saw the production model. That's just my opinion of course.

The one thing that really bothers me is how skinny the tires look under those wide arches in the pics I've seen.
And those vents above the wheels maybe, should've sticked with the vents in the concept hood instead of moving them to the fenders...

Other than that I'd have to drive and see it irl first before deciding what I would like to do with it.

I was speaking to a type r manager about a month or so ago and he reckons there is 25 mugen editions being released, will be good to see what they do with it

So were a good few months into the new type r.
Having had a small battle with one on track I can say they Defo need alittle development. Tbf I think it's mainly it's tyres that where letting it down. Along with its weight.
Anyone seen what tuners are doing with these?

Jesse,

All cars are open to further development in my eyes, just like your ek9 has gone through a lot of development to get to where it is now and that makes it a lot quicker than the FK2 BUT stock on stock the FK2 would be a lot quicker but I feel the Ek9 has the edge on cornering and even though it has those huge Brembos I saw a video of a test between the FK2 and an EP3 and the EP3 out braked it with its 'tiny' 300mm discs and single piston calipers, so definitely room for improvement there with the pad compound.

I think there is a lot to come for FK2, as long as the internals are strong enough (which i'm guessing they will be considering the K20 has such good internals) that we will soon be seeing a lot of 400hp+ ones floating about, and to be fair there no slouch in stock form.

I wonder what diameter the down pipe is on the FK2, exhaust has to be at least 2.5'' i would of thought...

as for modifications i would be interested in seeing the following:

Brake pad upgrade
Suspension upgrade
3'' downpipe (depending on size already)
3'' cat back
3'' de-cat
Custom exhaust manifold
Turbo inlet pipe
and a custom Tune

I think that would make some decent power even on the stock turbo. But I haven't seen many tuners doing anything to these yet, guess its just a waiting game to see who bites the bullet first and tests the strength of the engine.

I was contemplating buying one but I think I would rather wait until they come down in price. £30,000 for a civic is a lot!

Of course, I'm not comparing to my ek9 as that's not really fair is it.
I only saw it in the rear view but it really struggled to get out of hairpins with the front washing away.

I'd agree with a pad change, from a track perspective any pad from the current providers should fix that issue.
Suspension I feel unless your spending good money your not making the car any faster.
I'm not sure what turbo they actually run but id want to come at this car from the chassis first.
I feel this is where the improvements are most on a tighter track.
They are fairly heavy but not really by today's standards so?...

I'm sure I see a dyno run of a stock fk2 and it ran like 318 or something.
I know it was higher than the standard claimed figure.

Aye but how good was the driver? How well did he/she know the car? Any car is only as fast or good as its driver.

Good point as it comes standard with those fancy adaptive dampers.

Wonder if anyone will do a fully stripped, track oriented FK2.

You where watching saqib lol
At japfest2, according to everyone else the fk2 was flying passed everything that day.
Tbf I would say the fk2 was driven better than I was driving my car that day(first time out on a new build is my excuse lol) so that only speaks more about the improvements that can be made.
I wasn't braking very well so I didn't notice the poor braking in the fk2, Infact he was stopping faster than I was and really gained time on me there but lost it all on corner exit. They need more traction in lower gears not more power I feel. Perhaps the driver was over driving once he realised he wasn't catching me.

Yeah i totally agree.

Thats why even with Honda spending a hell of a lot of time, money, and effort on the suspension i still think with the right setup it can be made better. Just like any car really, manufacturers must be spending 100s of hours of research and development but can still be improved for handling rather than comfort.

Grip levels were always going to be an issue with so much torque coming in at such low revs. But obviously Honda cant really put a 2 way plated diff in a road car but im sure the diff they put in it from factory works a treat on the road just like the oem ek9 diff works well on the road.

I just cant wait to see what tuners do with them, its exciting to see what will be done to help traction as like you say thats the main area that needs improving.

I think tyres, exhaust and LSD mods will make huge dufference not only in power but in handling.. but its a FF car... power will cause traction problems. I saw in person Jesse racing the FK2. FK2 was fast in.. less power to weight ratio accelerating on exits.. but overall... FK2 with simple handling mods will make Huge improvement.. "Power is nothing without control"

There seem to be some exhaust systems readily available for it , Miltek and Remus and seem to give good gains and great noise , heard one with a Miltek on last week in Manchester ! sounded great

I believe TDI are working on some upgrades. They had something on facebook showing one around the 350hp mark with updates to the intake and downpipe.

Hondata are also working on something.

Having driven a stock FK2 id be more than happy with that, but will be interesting to see what the tuners can do.

Was just going to say that TDI north have been adding some mods to there one.

Yeah was full exhaust and intake mods.
No extra boost pressure at all to achieve an extra 50hp is pretty impressive.
Goes to show how strangled the engine is stock.

There will be built in tuning potential. Honda know their market.

I dont like it at all; big lardy lump. At Japfest it didnt catch me nor I it. Mine is a race car...but no poofy turbo! ;-)
