Undersealing 101

My friend asked me to underseal his car for him, as he had read that the ukdm EP3 have none/very little underseal, (Honda’s cost cutting measures) and did not want his pride any joy rusting beneath him.

So he dropped the car off with me, and I got to it.

so I started off by stripping off all the unnecessary parts ie. Heatshields, wheel arch liners, mud guards etc etc.

as you can see the rear wheel fabric arch liner was Honda’s way of cheap wheel arch protectant, and is a storage yard for moisture and dirt which would soon start causing rust.

In the bin it went, and along came some proper wheel arch protection.

With the everything removed, it was time to jet wash the underside at 60deg C.

once washed, it was back onto the ramp for high pressure air line drying to get rid of ALL moisture and and dirt debris which had not come off during washing. This process takes about 1.5hours to dry every square inch, every nook and cranny so that the underseal can be applied properly

now it was time to wrap up everything that wasn’t going to be coated in underseal

even though this car was only an 04 plate, the exhaust bolts has rusted and rounded off so much that I couldn’t remove the b pipe.i managed to remove the back box, but ended up breaking the bolts

once wrapped It was time to apply the first of 2 products. Both applications were applied by schutz gun.

Because the car was fairly new, and hadn’t been living in salty town, the car was rust free. Had the car been rusting on the underside, I would have treated the rust with converust rc900.

corromax 3125 is the first coat. For use in box sections & pre-application of underbody wax. Capable of good penetration into crevices and joints it penetrates through rust. Dries to leave a brown, waxy, water-repellent protective film giving excellent rust protection.

CAR 4941 is the second coat. corrosion preventive fluid which provides long term resistance against corrosion and abrasion, even under severe conditions. Provides a tough elastic waxy protective coating giving a high degree of protection.

That looks like a proper job mate. much betr than the job i done on mine. where are you based? i wouldnt mind getting my next jap car done!

marcus,
if only!!!!. throughout the years, the amount of underseal hondas have has decreased to a point where the cars are rusting within 4 years of rolling off the production line.

if you look at eg and ef's, they have copious amounts of underseal on. its only cos the sills and arches arent treated and thats why they rust.

CAL,
im based at pe28 0lp. about 20mins from santa pod.
