Hey y'all!

Sorry but i had to ask,

1.)Is it safe to vtec everyday?
2.) What safety measures do i check after doing vtec?

I mean I drive an ek9 b16b to work

and when the traffic allows me to, I rev up to 5500 rpm and boom regrets later. :D

thanks, kinda new of having an 9.

Make sure your oil is adequately toped up and engine is at correct operating temp..... Then enjoy as much as you like :))

1. If you take care of your fluids and aren't redlining every time I don't see a problem
2. Check for smoke out exhaust for burning too much oil and listen for broken valve lifters, sounds like a rapid tapping. Those are my suggestions.

That being said, I rarely hit VTEC and usually shift by 4k. My ek9 is also my daily, just remember that its a Honda, if you treat it right it will treat you right for a very long time. So keep that in mind as well.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, as long as your engine is up to temperature first and you keep tabs on the oil level as some tend to burn a little when rev'd hard.

I see, thanks!

Kinda paranoid to vtec all the time, since its my first type R.

Everything is stock, except minor details such as headers, airfilter.

The fact that its mostly stock works in your favour mate, The more modified the engine is, ie. more agressive cams etc, the more strain its under, so in the context of daily driving and reliability, stock is better!

But don't worry about booting it all the time, VTEC B-series engines were engineered to take frequent, high revving driving styles, engines like the B18C and B16B are fully balanced and counter-weighted with this in mind, its a JDM Type-R Honda, not a Peugeot attempt at a sport model by wacking a few bolt ons to a boggo economy engine lol, they were performance engines from the drawing board, Honda's engineering is second to none, I've used VTEC in my EK4 EVERY TIME I've used it for the last two years, and I drive it literally every day, It's been driven hard trust me and hasn't developed a single issue (well the radiator core went, needed a new rad, but that doesn't really count here!)

As before mentioned, just maintain essentials like oil levels, engine temp, water levels, etc etc, and watch for smoke on VTEC, the valve stem seals are the weak points on these engines, I rarely bounce mine off the limiter, but take it to 8k regularly. Honda hs safeguards though for worst case scenarios, VTEC doesn't engage until the engine is at temperature, and if the oil level is low VTEC won't engage, as it works off oil pressure.

Happy VTEC'ing!!
