Views on seat leon cupra r's....

Its not that I dont like them but they are like most cars in the VAG range:

Big
Heavy
Lumbersome

When it comes to Seat they are bottom of the range in terms of VAG. Haven't heard of much reliability problems with them though, i drive a cheap ass ibiza the now and its been a great runner.

They are pretty good cars but do have common faults like the water pumps going and braking up and the metal vapour barrier seals rotting away and leaking water into the car and the coil packs going.dnt get me wrong there good on the power and car be mapped to good bhp figures, just my past experience when i used to work at seat

Dnt no about seat but audi have released another coil pack recall to change affected ones

mates got a leon cupra r, proper smart cars and its well quick in a straight line, not so great in corners though bit heavy. do it

Im looking to come from the Cupra R to an EK9, the R is an amazing car, driven properly can easily play with an EP3 in the bends and on the straight the Type R dosent stand a chance.

Reliability wise mines on 117k, only thing to go are the coilpack (common on all 1.8 20vt engines) and other little sensors (total £45 for them all) if you service them regularly (i do mine every 6k) these engines tuned will go easy over the 200k mark. Altho i have replaced the head on mine as my mate was breaking his and i just took his head as it only had 20k on it, old one was still perfect. Loads of info on seatcupra.net.

With regards to the spanish build quality, its the same as Skoda Audi and VW all have the exact same parts on them from the same suppliers, the Cupra R is just a mash of different parts from other cars - engine=S3 and TT, front end=S3 and TT, rear end=Golf GTI ect.

The BAM engine in mine went in to the Cupra R in 2004 as Audi wanted the S3 to be the flagship of the VAG range, where as it was 2002 when it went into the S3.
