hi there

I have an AEM Hybrid Air Intake. I also want to use a velocity stack. I was wondering, on which air filters I can use velocity stacks?

I am looking at BLOX velocity stacks. I am not sure if I can use it on my AEM Filter.

any input is greatly appreciated.thank you so much.

You cannot, velocity stacks from blox require intake filter with 6" inlet. You can read my official intake thread to get the right KN part number. it's a BIG filter though...

hi blinx.thanks for the response. i was actually reading your article about it that got me interested in having one but i am not a big fan of k&N (no offence). i prefer dry element.

so im thinking to use an apexi power intake with a velocity stack.will it work? or an aem filter with any velocity stack out there?

apologies for my ignorance.

thanks

BPI stuff are good too.

doh why do you prefer dry element filter? AEM no longer makes there own filters, KN owns the entire AEM Intake operation now and uses KN filters with an AEM stamp on them.

The only reason i can see someone wanting a dry filter is if your car is equipped with a MAF sensor but your car is Speed/Density so you don't have to worry about that.

Apexi will not fit, they use a proprietery base plate to attach there filters to a pipe with 4 srews...

i also realized that apexi filters have their "own" special design. although, as to my research, they are one of the best filters for gains.

any other filter i can use a velocity stack beside k&N?

PS
i am also considering putting thermal wrap on my intake pipe hoping to reduce heat and power loss (minimal but may still help) you know any nice priced ones?
should be good for headers as well i think

thanks

Apexi is one of the best filters out there, they have a built in velocity stack actually so you can use them as is. I have seen 6whp gain on a d16 vtec by simply adding an Apexi funnel ram 2filter ont he stock intake arm!

For the heatshield, contact this ebay seller pow4521:
eBay Seller: pow4521: Parts Accessories items on eBay Motors

I bought a turbine heatshield for the turbo on my WRX from him, fast shipping, great communication, lowest prices i have found, and he ships worldwide!! Send him a message on ebay, feel free to tell him blinx referred ya ;)

thanks blinx.appreciate it a lot.

although my search continues for any filter that i can use velocity stacks beside K&N ( which i prefer dry element ) and apexi ( it has its own installation procedure) .

cheers!

OK seriously, whats your problem with KN? You have to at least answer that.

i know k&n is the number one filter in north america right now especially after the acquisition of aem intakes, but with my old eg hatch, i had oil in my intake,TB.most probably some got in the engine, small amounts, but still...right..

2 friends of mine had theirs on 240sx', messed up MAF.

maybe, isolated cases,also..i am attending school (for automotive service techs) and there was a big (obviously) debate as to how these oiled filters performed, researched were done blah blah etc..to cut the ong story short,it was the best filter to use.

hmm..so that clearly made up my mind about k&n.but then again, it works for a lot of people,so thats good for me.

im just trying to stay with dry ones..

PS.i think DEI makes good thermal wraps..

You do realize your car does not have a MAF and it is impossible for the oil on the filter to make it all the way to your throttle body unless you dipped the filter in a bucket of oil, oil on the TB is usually sign of a bad PCV valve which dumps oil into the intake tract.

Anyhow if you are dead set on not running a KN filter then you will have to say goodbye to your velocity stack idea as they are the only ones that make an intake with a 6" inlet, other companies that make them are either made by KN or are KN copies which are also oiled.

hi there,

1) yup.no MAF sensor.im just citing other friends car.

2) pcv was an issue in my old car.thats right. got a catch can on my car now.

3) i think you are right, only k&n can be compatible with a velocity stack, i think blox makes one as well.im not sure if they are oiled or not.

4) i think having a velocity stack really helps a lot in power gains.

cheers!

i have blox velocity stack kit here if anyones interested, will mate to itr intake pipe, not sure will mate to ek9 oem pipe though but best used with 3" intake pipe
