ok so i bought a plug n play harness from boomslang.com and hooked up my VAFC II to my 99 EK9, OBD2b and every thing works great.....BUT i dont have Vtec!!!! the light comes on the VAFC that signals i am in vtec, but no cam change over,
i have the VAFC II initialized and i am making no changes, basicaly just using it to monitor.
does anyone have any ideas???????
its really upsetting actually.....

Hi Sturvin,

Pin B12 (green with yellow stripe) is the vtec solenoid wire, the ecu outputs power to this pin to open the vtec solenoid.

I would check that pin first on both ends of the adapter harness. is the harness you bought just obd2b at both plug & socket?

yes the harness is OBD2b to OBD2b, just all the wires are pre-installed to use VAFC II,
so i checked the pin B12, and the purple wire comes from ECU and goes to VAFC II, pink wire comes out of VAFC II and goes to engine.
i rechecked all installation, and i am good to go there. i also read out all wires pertaining to VAFC II and they all check good.
maybe the VAFC II unit itself is bad.....:angry2:

have some one check are you getting a 12v signal from the VAFC to the vtec solenoid wire when you should be in vtec

ill get the ohm meter out and check it in the morning. good idea. thanks!!:nice:

well i re-installed every thing and warmed up the car,
spun up the motor past the vtec point and i am NOT getting 12v through the wire from the VAFC II,
which leads me to believe i got a bad VAFC unit.
any other thoughts??

go into settings and turn vt control off and see if the ecu will then control it,then youll know your vafc is buggered

do u have your vtm (single blue wire) wired in or is it just hanging?

just got back from yet another test run,
so i went in and put the VAFC II in L>H **** and H>L **** and i get no vtec engagement. i also tried putting the engagement at factory settings, IE 6100 and 5750, even then i still dont get vtec engagement.
i think the unit is bad, it was used by another guy when i bought it.
its a shame.....:nono:

yup the VTM is connected. plug C-10.

Is VTM wire connected to the VAFC? ... if it is then the VTM will need a voltage signal input before allowing VTEC to engage. the USDM and UK/EU-DM vtec cars have this pressure 'switch' checking theres enough oil pressure before allowing VTEC to be engaged. JDM vtec's dont have it.

May be worth looking into ;)

so if VTM isnt on EK9s what should i do with the VTM wire from the VAFC II? right now its in spot C-10 that goes into the computer, maybe it should be going the other direction???? and put it on the side going to the wire harness??? maybe???

dont use the vtm wire coming off the vafc just let it hang.

ok this harness is for a OBD2b USDM civic, i am looking at it now and there are some discrepancies, my car is a JDM EK9 civic.
so with that said, the wiring harness has 2 other wires i am not sure about, spots C-22 and C-31. these are for the CFK sensors and i believe that JDM engines dont utilize these sensors, just like the TDC sensors.
so i now have to go back and find out what wires go where.

DOES ANY ONE HAVE A JDM OBD2b CIVIC ECU PIN OUT CHART????

so VTM is not plugged in, all other wires check good, the harness is very similar only small changes, all important wires are connected.
still no VTEC, should i splice the VTM into the VTS wire??
and if i should, what wire? the one going from ecu to the VAFCII(purple) or the one going from the VAFCII to the VTEC solenoid(pink)??
any suggestions?:angry2:

u say your running usdm harness? stupid question but when u unconnected the vtm (blue wire) from your harness did u splice it in or cut it off and connect the blue vtm straight to your harness?

well i looked into the harness and contacted boomslang.us and the harness i have is plugs A,B,C with every wire in every plug. that way it can be used by any OBD2b vehicle, sometimes there is a wire in the harness even if there is no pin in the ecu for it. thats fine because the wire doesnt go to anything, no harm no foul,

so any way i had the VTM wire going to spot C-10 but there is no pin in my ECU in that spot so the wire didnt actually go anywhere. and i dont know where else to put the VTM wire. so,

currently i have disconnected the VTEC in and out of the VAFC II and just running it as a gauge for now.
