Tyre size

Looking at tyres for drag racing and just a quick question to confirm something.
the width of the tyre effects the actully outside diameter of the tyre and in turn the speed at which the car can actully do in each gear
As in a
185/55/r15 is 23.01 inch's
and
205/55/r15 is 23.88 inch's.

Yes, the "55" is the height of the tyre sidewall and is a percentage of the width. So a 50 profile 185 would be 92.5mm tall and a 50 profile 225 would be 112.5mm tall.

I new the 55 or profile was the height just never relised the width effected the dimater or how tall the tyre was thanks eugene
