what are the first few things that you would do to an ek9? performance wise?
im not on aboiut bolting huge turbos to it.
just like smallish things that are going to make the biggest difference possible.
like exhaust? intake? etc

cheers

hmmm, you dont like big turbos? but a small one on then :nice: j/k honestly get a decent exhaust system and then do gearing, something like an MFactory FD kit or gearset. you will notice the biggest improvement with those parts.

LOL
actually i will be looking to turbo it when i get it and have had it for a year or two. you seem like you know turbos lol..... how much is it to turbo an ek9?
i'd have to get someone else to do it proffesionally because i wouldnt know where to start!
and does it make a huge difference?
also wouldnt a supercharger be a better idea as you would get better low rev power instead of having the power from the turbo and the power from the VTEC all at once?

cheers

A smaller turbo will spin up quickly and give better top end power than a supercharger.

NA is the way forward :) but if you are going forced induction its gotta be a turbo.....but hey, its your money :)

cheers mate :)

how much you reckon it would be to get a pro to do it?

pricre really depends what country your in, i can only tell you how much it would cost if you lived in USA. turbo makes a HUGE difference!! my car makes 333whp and 260tq, its still a 1.6 an NA 1.6 or 1.8 will never make that much power. and no, supercharger is NOT a better idea, read this thread to learn why:

very helpfull/confusing thread mate lol

so roughly how much to get a decent turbo set up on an ek9 in the UK?

well, there are so many options, but my route (best for me)is

Induction - Done
Manifold- Done
De-cat -Done
Exhaust-Done
Cams + Valve train (skunk 2 Probably)
Management (Stand alone)
4.785 Final Drive
Coilovers
Brakes

But this will probably change, was going to go stroked but kind of gone off that ideaLOL:nice:

I think you'll probably looking at 4-6k upwards. Stay well clear of the cheap ebay kits unless you like your engine being wrecked.

The most important thing is engine management. Skimping on this will be costly.

If you are not going to be boosting your car for a year or two, then don't bother wasting your money on costly mods just now as, when you do finally decide to go boost, some of those mods will probably need to come off.

Just dump < $1k on your transmission and you will be quicker than any NA car out there. That should see you till you decide to boost.

so what exactly am i supposed to do to me transmition?
and what benifits will it have?
and how much will it cost?

Cost is down to which gearet you choose, same with clutch & flywheel and if you wanted a more aggressive lsd, maybe a quaiffe or spoon etc.

Gearset £400 ish, I believe you can buy direct from them if you have verified paypal UK, or pay more from DMRR (european distributer).
Clutch £200 upwards (depending on maker/type etc).
Spoon/Kaaz etc LSD £550 ish (Quaiffe is cheaper and not as aggressive).
Lighter Flywheel £1-200 ish.
Other parts, synchros/selecter fork bearings/sleeves etc £200 ish.
Labour roughly 8hrs at say £40 p/hr so £320 ish (less if you dont have all of the above).

All approximate but you get the idea, cheaper than a turbo and obviously not as quick in a straight line but who cares. As for results, it totally transforms the car, turning you into a grinning rice rocket racer..

1.695/1.384/1.000 or 1.625/1.296/1.000 both ideal for daily with 4.4FD both ideal for daily m8, the first set being a touch more aggressive imo.

If you have a type R engine, stick to N/A. Theres nothing out there that delivers like VTEC.

Superchargers will still give you that VTEC kick but just way more torque and power. They're not as bad as you think, easier to tune as well, and many types to choose from like Centrifugal, twin-screw, root type. Centrifugal is my personal choice as it's the safest and doesn't stress out your engine as much as the other 2, and it also has air/air or air/water intercooling.

Go turbo if you want crazy figures, go charger if your happy with 80hp increase.

The most powerful drag engines in the world are using Superchargers. If they were that ****, no one would use them.
So many charged holden drag cars using Centrifugal chargers making 800-1000whp+ over here and getting crazy ET times. They deliver better launch because of the gradual rise in boost pressure per RPM. 7sec ETs no probs.

If you are going to later turbo the car, dont NA modify now as its a waste of money. Reduce the weight of the car, that would be a good 1st step as its going to still be an advantage when you do turbo it. Also turbo'ing the car will cost a lot, it may be better to start with one already done.
