I'm considering changing my current car for an EK9, obviously they're not abundant in number and having looked about on Pistonheads there seem to be a few sellers that seem to deal primarily with EK9's and DC2's.

Can you give me any feedback, recommendations, ones to avoid in your experience?

Also any common faults I need to look for?

Also (and I know you guys might be slightly biased on this one, lol) would you change from a 55,000 mile 54 plate 182 clio you've owned from new has been bullet proof in terms of reliablity and is in mint condition for a car which is at best going to be 9-10 years old?

TIA

There is alot of very clean examples you will find for sale on here that members are selling i would rather buy one from a known trusted member on here than buy fresh import (matter of opinion) otherwise if you want a fresh import the person to speak to is typerdunk on here FastJapCars.Com :: Dedicated to Japanese cars if he doesnt have something you want he will get it imported for you .

nothing really goes wrong with these that you would have to look out for . the only thing i would recomend would be checking for accident damage etc .

and as for getting rid of the clio for an ek9 . i can honestly say you wouldnt regret it . the ek9 doesnt have the same torque low down as the 182 but they are alot more fun to drive and with simple bolt on mods these cars can be very fun

Hope that helps . dont know where you are from but if you were near me i would let you come view mine and take you out in it which would help make up your mind

John

Sadly I'm down in Wiltshire so a bit of a trek but I appreciate the offer John :nice:

I take it from that Dunk is a known quantity and sources decent high auction grade cars? If a number of people have dealt with him and been happy with the condition of cars sourced I would probably go that route.

I keep getting told I may be unimpressed with the straight line performance due to the lack of torque in comparison to the clio so it would be nice to get to drive one in order to form my own opinion.

I appreciate you didn't go down the "french piece of ****" route too in the reply, lol :)

i think most people on here would vouch for Duncan, whether they bought their car directly from him or, like me, bought it privately but the car was initially imported through Duncan.

have a look at this ek9 register: http://www.ek9.org/forum/resource-area/22892-ek9-register.html and you will see the number of "FJC" cars on there, which stands for FastJapCars, and they're cars Duncan has brought over.

if i was buying a new import, that's where it'd be looking anyway.

hope this helps :)

Sounds like I need to just go and try one. Thanks for the responses.

I'm looking at a facelift model as I'm not overly keen on the pre facelift looks. I've heard Type R, Type Rx and racebase, what are the differences? I'd be looking at a car with A/C and electric windows (some come with electric folding mirrors too is that right?)

HONDA - CIVIC - Honda Civic Type R - EK9 - Facelift - Torque GT used Japanese performance car and import specialists, Honda, Subaru, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and Mitsubishi

I have done alot of buisness with these guys They also do vey fair trade in I think they can also deliver the car to u at a cost.

As for swapping clio to ek9 Yes yes yes I went from evo to ek9 & no regrets :nice:

i also went to Torque GT to test drive a DC2 as i wasn't sure which to buy and would recommend them too, it's just that they don't always have EK9's but Duncan will have. You won't go wrong with either of these though :nice:

as for model variances, see these threads:

i have a facelift and it has A/C, electric windows and electric mirrors so one of these would meet your requirements, plus you like the look of them :)

ooh, Wiltshire, If I may ask - where abouce? I'm near Lyneham atm.

I bought my Ek9 off pistonheads, Looked great, very cheap aswell - Engine in perfect working order + Found out it had a Cusco LSD, Os Giken super single one clutch and was stroked. Quite a nice little find :nice:

I can vouch for Duncan on here (type-r-dunk) as he imported mine. He imports quality cars :nice:

As for the register, he has more to add on, around 50 odd I think.

Hi there buddy
If you are down this way I would be happy to take you out for a drive. Don't worry I am not a great salesman I promice I will not pressure you to buy a car.
I too have had many more powerful cars and think the ek9 is one of the best all rounders ever made.
Cheers Dunx

I would HIGHLY recommend Road N Rally, the Guys in West Yorkshire.
They sourced my ek9, and they seem to just specialise in this sort of car. am sure a few guys on the forum, have bought from em. They also kindly gave 3 Month Warranty, which was great piece of mind.

Welcome to the Road & Rally Website

Sounds like a result there! I'm in Swindon so a stones throw from Lyneham, when you say at the moment I'm guessing you're forces and based there at present?

Thanks for the response Duncan, very much appreciated sounds ideal. Unfortunate I missed you with my call on saturday.

Thanks again to all those who replied, been very helpful. :nice:

imo Duncan (FJC) is the only guy to buy an EK9 from!

Very trusted seller & never heard a bad word about him or his cars!

I trusted his rep that much that i took a mate of mine down from Preston to buy a EK9 from him a few months ago.

The car is mint & the after sale service is top notch too!

When i am looking for another EK9 i will be using duncan.

I cant recomend him enough TBH:secret:

I used andy at 200bhp Cars and he was a pleasure to deal with and sourced me a mint ek9

Without a doubt I would say Torque GT.

I bought a car from a seller on here and I was quite dissapointed with the service down to the point that when rack gaitors are split, it should have failed it's mot. However it passed it's mot and I was told it was going to be done but then get a phone call to say 'i forgot'. Also due to the car being raided for parts, the tracking was miles out (I was told it was tyre pressures) and there were numerous broken bits of trim where this had clearly been rushed.

Compared to the service my brother got at torque GT, they are a superb company.

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to name and shame, or was that a private sale?

Well Loonsta its fair to say there are a few decent ek9 dealers out there. All the best.
