ok...so its not an ek9 i know! but i hope some can appreciate :p

Its time i started this, the project has begun...Time for an update!

I took the car off the road around october/november time for the winter and kept it tucked away.

got myself quite a few new bits over the winter...which im going to get round to fitting in the next couple of weeks

brought the car out mid march, gave it a full service and sorted a few things for its mot at the end of the march. it passed first time after a couple of lightbulb adjustments and that was it! it was solid as a rock! and no favours were required!

april came and preparations to take it on knockhill for the 1st time came along. Trackscotlands night in April, got sorted with new tyres and spares and done all the check ups, i stripped out more stuff like the doorcards which i originally left in, and made an attempt at removing more sound deadening. Im gonna have to do it again though as theres a sticky tar left over, i never really had time after finishing work at nights, plus i couldnt really be bothered either as i was nachered after 5am starts!

IT WAS AWESOME THO!! I cant grumble at all about the cars performance in a track environment. felt really tight, safe, and brought huge smiles being able to sink the right foot without being concerned about speed limits! it performed superb all day. i can see why track driving is so addictive!! Im looking forward to more!

heres a few pics from that event, before going there, and a few on track...

Some supplies for the night...

and heres some pics from the tracknight...the indicator on the front wing has been photoshopped out btw, because typical...when a photo of my car was taken, it had fallen out!!!

i did run a kerb a bit hard on the twisty section on my 1st outing of the night so i recon it will be in the sand somewhere...lol

superb night, I loved it!

I was quiet again for the last couple months to follow as i became very ill, and i was taken into hospital recently for quite a few weeks. im on the mend now though! :)

no work was done since the track night, i was too ill, it was just covered up again, but since settling back down at work again the past couple weeks, i started work again this week. Its rebuild time ( No not the engine ;) )!! im giving the car a huge overhaul.

There will be more pictures very very soon of the car with no clothes on, and all its new stuff to go on plus things i have for the engine bay.

Its reveal day is the 20th July. The F&M show at ingleston, im on a show stand and cant wait! its going to look VERY different!

will keep this thread updated as it progresses people

cheers

Looks good mate! Sorry to hear you were ill. Good to hear your on the mend! :nice:

Any vids of your beast??

not yet unfortunately bud, there is a quick snip onboard a track prepared cooperS who comes out the pits just after i pass the exit, but im never seen again after that :D

amazing weather here tonight, just about to start some work, will post up more later.

damn, amazing car! great job! :)

lovely car i would love to have a track car like this!
got alot of carbon to go on?

work started tonight as i was saying, removing the bumper, wings and side skirts...was all i had time for after dinner really.

and the delivery car, aka, the ek9 minivan!! ready to take the bumper away to its new home...local garage to me and very good personal friend Dougie at garage Trix.

the bumper is one of only TWO in europe, and is not made anymore, Dougie is kindly going to repair it and have it looking fresh, with a few minor changes i want before respray.

it is the only part of the car im keeping from the existing bodywork.

So far so good though. No hidden rust anywhere and the slam panels and chassis is all completely straight, not bad considering the extensive track history of the car! i was hoping for no nasty suprises behind the side skirts and didnt get any, its all completely straight, the paintwork is good, the fixing points are fine and the only thing needing done is getting all the dust off the rear arch thats built up underneath!! result!

more pics coming very soon :)

do you have any videos mate? :D

unfortunately no videos yet rvm, however, will be investing in a bullet cam before my next track night as id like to start up a collection myself.

thanks for the positive comments about the car and me, my health is almost back to normal now.

there is quite a lot going on this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon.

I did two 12 hour shifts in a row, wednesday and thursday at work, so no work was done to the car when i got home, and by the time friday night came, i was nachered and just wanted a quiet one with mates!

I cracked on this morning though since it was a good day.

Off came the cover to start the new day...

Out with the old front wings and side skirts...

and in with the new wider ones...

These are brand new genuine Feed wings that i went down to sheffield to collect a few months ago. I couldnt get anything sorted with the seller, and I didnt want to risk delivery damage, so i hired myself a fiesta 1.4 turbo deisel 5 door bus ( YEEHAA!! ) from enterprise for £20 or £30. saved taking the ek9 on an unessessary journey, and got stupid high to the gallon. weather was also bad then too, I hit snow near the lake district on my way home.

I test fitted them first, and lined them up loosely, made sure the fit was flush and just like the old wings, and that the doors didnt clip anything whilst opening or closing. I was told the fit of the Feed products are superb, and i cant agree more! they fit great!!

I then went ahead and started securing them to the car once all was ok.
Iv used the existing bolts and fasteners, however, im gonna be taking a trip to a DIY store, and get new stainless steel replacements - brand new bodywork, with crap weathered bolts wont do. The same goes for any bolt or fastener i find along the way, not just body parts.

Since these wings are wider than the old ones (which were slightly wider than stock ) they come out a lot flatter, rather than curve down like before. so it means i can drop the coilovers down more so that the arch lip sits just above the tyre. :)

Also, please note that bonnet is supposed to sit like that as its on raisers at the back to let heat out the engine bay. Its not that its a poor fit or poorly aligned :)

Unfortunately the rain started coming down heavy around dinner time and so I didnt want to do any more.

Thanks to my mate Kev for helping out also

more progress hopefully tomorrow, weather permitting!

gathered together more of the stuff i bought over the winter and got them ready to fit. didnt actually get round to doing it though as it was raining on saturday, and i was dog tired on sunday, but here they are...

Cusco Oil Catch tank

JDM Tyte box

Re-Amemiya Air Separator Tank

Heres the bit iv been waiting for for ages. I came home from work today to find that my order had arrived from Japan!! Its been an 8 week wait, but bloody heck, it was worth it!

my new panels!

New carbon bonnet

treated myself to a carbon bonnet for the ek9 while i was at it

new carbon bootlid

civic bonnet

new carbon doors

carbon heaven, the weight loss is amazing!

heheh, carbon appreciation

didnt get round to fitting the bonnet as the bolts on my bonnet raisers are different sizes, so its off to B&Q or something tomorrow

still waiting for a few more parts. but will do what i can this week with the little time i have after work.

the front bumper is coming along nicely at dougies too!

got the bonnet on my ek9 though, perfect fit too!

still waiting for a few more parts. but will do what i can this week with the little time i have after work.

Great write up, there is a guy that lives near me that takes a white rx7 to knockhill sometimes its got over 700bhp dont know if you have seen him?

your car looks amazing

cheers

700bhp, really?? :O niceeee!
i "might" know him, is it the HKS t51R turbo he is running, if so, iv had a brief word with him on the rx forum, from edinburgh? his was white too, but i was under the impression it was only around the 500 mark. i wasnt aware he did any track days though...

however, there is another white rx which i know that goes to knockhill who is from edinburgh also, and is also white, he is still running stock twins still, so no way reaching the 7 hundred mark lol

where are you from?

thats my plastic windows for the sides and rear ordered this morning, and will be ordering my carbon undertray/splitter later on in the week, or start of next. they are in stock, in the uk, so no 8 week delivery times :)

Car goes into the bodyshop on monday, and so, will just take the parts down there and fit them whilst its all apart.

will keep this updated, and thanks for the comments. they make the skint knuckles and baggy tired eyes worthwhile :)

cant wait for F&M :D

Looking very nice indeed. Loving the carbon jobbies :D

I'll be going to fast and modified so i'll have a gander! :)
