Does anyone know how long these last ? Been told they need replacing quite often, is this true ? Ive got a set of Jun ones in my car they have been in there for about 20,000 miles.

Cheers
Rich :nice:

ya they say only go 4-5000 miles on them but tons off people including myself are like u over the 20k mark with no problems.

yeah I've got a lot of mileage on my crowers. The main reason why Ti retainers had a bad rap before is that many of them were not snap fit. This caused the retainer to spin on top of the spring and that's what caused many of the failures.

Since then, manufacturers have stepped up and ensured the retainer to fit snugly. I am a good example of blind luck as the crower ret. I used were supposed to be for their own spring, but when I had them installed, I noticed they actually "clicked" into place and were much tighter fit than OEM.

I did a 2400km trip (1200 one way) in about 8 hours - so you can imagine how fast I was going ....with a 4.785 final drive - the car was constantly in VTEC!

Ime doin a engine b18c build soon, do you guys think i should change the retainers ?

I think the hype of titanium had a lot of people (including myself) getting on the bandwagon. But once people started having problems with them with breakage, it put a lot of others on the fence.

Personally, if you're having second thoughts and doubts...I wouldn't do it. This is not to say stock retainers don't break...they do, just the chances of them failing has been lower.

& in general what's the life span of ti?

a general question requires a general answer.

I'd feel completely safe running it for one year or 25,000kms....in my eyes, Ti retainers are a wear item.

Like RA said, use SNAP-FIT (i.e. tight fitting ones that canrib against the sring-steel).

Ive used titanium in my car for nearly 22,000miles no problems. It the ones that dont fitt snug in the springs that cause problems for sure.
