hi there well i got a new timming belt ,water pump and tensioner fitted yesturday.and when i got the car back there was a realy strong smell of oil in the car...i didnt think much of it as i regurly check the oil and change it every six months.so this mornin heated the car and set of to work which is thirty miles away but on the way back home i put the car from 3rd to 4th at about 50mph and the car lost all power pulled in at the side of the road and the car felt as if it was going to stall...i wasnt far from home so i drive on but no power realy strugled to get home..opened the bonnet and oil every where i thought i was going to be sick...diped it a wile later and empty...rang the garage that put the belt in and had a word with the chap which is a friend of the family and he came out and had a look...took off the rocker cover and the gasket was broke and a bit missing off it!!!!!!!filled it back with oil and re fitted the rocker cover and still lumpy i must say when we started it up it let out a cloud of smoke i know this isnt a good sign...he wants the car back up to strip it back but i dont know if i can trust him...any ideas thanks

he Needs to sort that engine out for you dude. if he does take it away and redoes it for you DO NOT let him charge you.. if it was fine before he did the work it is all his fault. he may be a family friend but truth be told it is his fault, so he has to fix it.. DO not let him charge you for his mistake..

oh yeah i forgot to add, really sorry to hear about his dude. its never a nice thing to happen to anyone.

thinks lads yea i know i felt so sick when i saw all the oil every where..the car was 1005% before it went to him i have had it for three years now and not 1 bit of bother you think your giving your self a bit of peace of mind by getting the belt done and this happens....yea he said he will sort it so lets hope its not to bad but there is definatley blue smoke...

Let him sort it out. Simple and if the problem persists it his problem not yours make that clear!

thats the valves seals the got fried body and sorry to hear that i know the feeling it sucks

if the car didnt over heat your ok but if did overheat you may fried the piston rings hope not but the valve seals are gone deffenely good luck

really sorry to hear this mate, as said let him take it away a sort it, probs the best and cheapest way to get it fixed

Its a shame a damn shame. This happened to a friend of mine, he just scrapped the car.

thanks again....no it didnt over heat i think it may have just slipped a tooth but what do i know...lol car is geting took away today and hopefully hear a bit of good news kepp use updated....thanks again...

sorry to hear about this mate :( as said its not nice seeing ur car in a poor way, and as said family friend or not its HIS FAULT and could end up costing you big money if he doesnt sort it for you

well just to update this post got my car back today and its sorted thank god....the problem was that he didnt fit the rocker cover correctly and a bit broke of as he tightend it that explains the oil leaking out....then the bit that broke away fell into the timming belt area an slipped a cog....nocking it off the timming abit running on three cylinders...took it a good rip tonight and is pulling strong through the gears and not smoking so all is good and am happy got my baby back.....

Glad that it's all fixed!

cool! Small bits like rocks and loose gravel can cause issues with the timing belts, you are lucky it did not damage your engine more. Keep that cover over the belt and the plastic cover over the bottom half at all times.
