The Difference Noticeable

^^^:blabla::blabla::blabla:^^^ read the other posts, why would i be making this up...:angry2:

I don't doubt what DOSvtec is saying as there are so many more variables to look at than simply EK4 vs EP3 and this is not honda-tech so people don't make stuff up.
what reason would DOSvtec have to make this up. as he said that's just sad lol.

Anyway the way i see it i have not driven an EK9, but from what i hear they are superb where as i find the completely stock VTI is a bit of a dog and needs alot of encouragement to suceed.
I personally find the suspension unsettlingly soft and i have owned 3 now so it wasn't just an old one with bad suspension lol.
I also found that everything is more geared towards comfort, steering doesn't have much feel, engine is not as keen to rev, turn in is sharp but there is loads of roll.

Vti for me really need some suspension upgrades like springs and dampers or coilovers and then with bigger roll bar's with light wheels and good tires.. also an nice exhuast all the way through and an induction kit make the engine feel a bit more responsive. i would like to add heare though that even with a striahg through exhuast and a decat and a nice CAI i didn't feel massive increase's in power but more repsonce which made the engine feel more powerful and more keen to rev harder.
to take the EK4 up to the rawness of an EK9 engine wise, i really think you need exhuast ( FULL ) CAI, upgraded inlet mani, upgraded TB, some nice Cam's and a full Remap. yeah you can make the same or even more power than an EK9 with a B16A2 but its not gonna be as responsive or as raw as the B16B.

So basically i am saying there is a world of difference. hence the reason EK9's can sell for £6000 and a Vti can go for around £2000 all day for a good example.

IMO there are much different between vti and ek9....In term of engine, body rigid, suspension, break and much more.....You can utilize the full potential of ek9 at track and that's why Honda invented Type R...... Straight for fast car and corner for fast driver....peace....:)

Thanks again for the input folks. I totally agree with what people have said regarding you can get one engine that runs sweet and is really quick, and then you'll get another same engine that doesnt run aswell, there are alot of variables in it.

I think I will defo go for one around August/September time but I aint just going to jump in and buy the first one I see, will shop around, would like one with around 80k miles and quite tidy, what sorta price do you think a standard 9' with this mileage would cost? I thought about getting one imported but I understand at the moment it will probably cost more than purchasing one already in the UK.

Have a look over in Ireland mate. They seem to be cheaper over there :)

x2, a friend of mine sold his 99 type r 2 weeks ago for €3000, it wasn't the tidiest but it wouldn't of taken alot of €'s to get her looking the best again

i had vti as my first car, got a ek9 then and i found it alot better than the vti.

more aggressive and an all around better car, but in fairness ek9s are built to be faster than vtis by honda so i suppose its where you decide to take the car from there that matters:)

both me and my friends vti's just had induction kits and a de-cat pipe, thats it. the one i had was well looked after but was drivin hard by previous owners and me :naughty: it could beat ep3's no bother, its the only car i've regretted selling
but if i knew were it was, i would buy it again.

That 9 must have been dog then.

I believe you, BUT

A standard EK4 vs standard EK9 in a straight line. EK9 should win. If the EK9 has had a rough life it will be closer and maybe an EK4 could edge it.

However, if your was EK4 is consistently keeping up and beating EP3's it is far more likely that your EK4 had more mods than an air filter. Manifold and a map? Maybe it even a b16b or b18 in there :D

I completely understand that a well looked after car will have an edge on an abused EK9. But because your car had a reputation for being fast, I'd imagine it was because it was and not just that everybody else had poorly serviced cars.

Don't take this comment the wrong way, I believe what you are saying. Just I think that your car was faster than an air filter and decat, or you are a lot better at driving than your friends. ;)

I agree mate. Not even an EK4 that just rolled of the factory line could beat a dog EP3. No way.

If you set your budget for around 5500 quid you should be able to pick and choose from the tidy ones out there.

Thats the rough figure I was thinking £5000-5.5k and then need some more to change insurance over :/

I quite like this ek9. Would probs take the Spoon stickers off but thats the kind of thing I'll be looking for

There's been a topic about that car, lack of info in the ad etc

i know this has been said countless times in this thread already but im going to say it anyway
having owned my ek9 for a nice while now i can say that an ek9 is in a differant league to that of an ek4..simple.
i think barry85 explained what the ek9 is all about so ill rest my case:)

Have you owned an ek4?A ek9 is a better car but the way some people go on about them on here its like the ek4 is **** compared to them. For the money you get vti's for these days you could buy one and b18 it and good suspension set-up for the same price you can get a facelift ek9 for or less maybe.Best bang for buck car out there is the 96 spec dc2,4000 is what mint ones with low miles go for these days
