hi guys i bought a ek9 yesterdaay and noticed that the temperature gauge is slow heating up and just falling up and down alot really!?

just wondering what the cause of this could be?
my spec is just hks cat back exhaust system and my engine is b16btype r

I had this exact same issue when mine first came in from Japan. New thermostat from Honda fixed the job straight off (can't remember price but it's not much).

Must be the third or fourth time I've heard of this though, I'm beginning to wonder what the deal is with their thermostats out there. Low temp maybe?

Seems to be a weak point on Hondas,I've replaced 3 in Civics, all stuck open, about a tenner for one down the motor factors

Hey just changed mine the weekend after taking Jokeshopbeard's advise when i asked the same question week or so ago. Problem solved nice one mate!!! Very easy job really, I drained the coolant from a bleed valve at the bottom of the radiator and saved the fluid as it wasn't very old, then disconected all the bits from the bottom hose closest the the engine. Pulled the old thermostat out and popped in my new one. Got a spoon one for a really good price so trying that out. Seems very much the same but probably cools the engine when driven hard a little more. Cheers again Jokeshop!

think i need to do this on mine, coolant has been changed twice very recently

I just done mine last weekend :)

As what Piccolo87 stated... It's just 2 10mm bolts which I removed and thermostat out and new one in and i also re-used my rad fluid, as it was only recently changed and still fresh.

Previously it would just take ages to even budge on the gauge and wouldn't even get to the halfway mark. Checking on the Apexi FC, I could see that the hottest it would get was 70C for normal driving and then it would drop to 65C when driving on M roads.

Easy fix :)

I used this one when mine went, seems if your honda sits alot unused or like in the case of importing sits for a while your thermostat is going to go.

OEM Quality, cant remember for sure but think the one i removed was gates to. Anyone who has done one recently know who makes OEM honda ones ?

anyway heres the link to the one i got.
