td04 starlet comparison with ek9?


My friend has a 213bhp JDM b18c swap he is selling, thinks its £2500ono for absolutely everything to B swap a D series Honda.

Pace aside though they dont compare.

An ek9 is a far better all round car. More room, MILES better interior, better engineerd, IMO better looks and from my own experience far more reliable.

£2500 thrown at a Starlet will give you more power than that. Bang for buck IMO they win hands down. They have huge tuning potential for there size.

Oh and for reliability, they can be just as good if done right and maintained. My bros td04 Starlet never broke down in over 5 years running 250+ hp. If it did, it was never mechanical, just old electrics.

I know they are faster in a line than a 9, and years ago i went out for a spin in one.

The main thing i hate is the stigma around them. me IMO always see them as chav waggons. I know this isn't true but it's just a stereotype i see often :p

The interior isn't as good quality (that's saying something)

In the corners they are awful, and they are way to small inside.

Get an EK9, for the sake of a little less straight line speed you gain so much more.

Sure N/A tuning is expensive but f*ck it, it's only money and you can always earn more!

Thing about Starlets, the torque/power delivery make them feel very powerful. Honda's haven't much torque and don't feel particularly powerful but you still watch that speedo climb! TD04 Starlet will be definitely faster in a straight line, but that's where the advantages end IMO.


this especially on track its the corners where you want to win :)
 
Without sounding nasty tryin to compare a starlet to a ek9 is like comparing lambrini to champane they are to differant cars in to differant league's

And my mate had a glanza running 190 bhp n my lil 9 was still fasta :lol:
 
You can't compare them, one is turbo and obviously the civic isn't. If you put the same money into the civic that was put into the glanza then it would be fair to compare. I've owned a Glanza V and an Ek4 and there is no comparrison, the civic is comfortable, better looking and for the money easier to get the BHP where the civic has terrible handling and is not a comfortable car at all
 
Or consider a hybrid CT9, mine was running just under stock boost, 0.6 bar as opposed to 0.65 iirc. WEPR power up kit externally gated manifold, decat and front mount and made 168 bhp I think standard is 135? Do wish i'd got it mapped properly before I sold it.

i have done this to my 9 and is 345bhp at the fly. best thing i have done. nothing much keeps up with it.
owned a glanza with coilys, trd diff, anti roll bar etc good as a everyday car which i used it for but in my experience the reliability isnt there and build quality is not great.
 
Im astonished at all the comments about how they aint that reliable? From my experience they are. Yous must have just whacked the boost up and hoped for the best.
 
Lol hi, starlet is at 1.1 bar external gate, front exit etc i could probably swap a b18c4 and box plus the turbo bits for the b16b and s80 box etc, il have to get cal to see

Ek9 has s4c box, not s80.
As standar anyway, s80 is longer and a downgrade

the 96 spec s80 has the same internals as the ek9 s4c, the 98 spec is a good upgrade to the s4c as it has the 4.7 fd imo.
