Hi guys,

A little problem ive experienced with my EK9 since i bought it about 3 weeks....

It origonally had the speed limit on still in KPH as it was a fresh import so i asked the trader to convert to MPH and have it delimited at the same time....

All was good, gave it a little test and power is great through all 4 gears, get into 5th gear, power right to a GPS reading of 119MPH and cuts out and sometimes i reach 124mph @7K RPM and same thing cuts out... It literally cannot hit any higher then that speed @7K RPM, when the car revs to around 9K RPM..... so 2K RPM left..... And pulls very well to that speed to and just suddenly cuts out, feels like a speed limiter.....? goes back down to around 116mph and pulls back up to 124mph and carries on doing this cycle..........!

PS, this is GPS reading so alot higher then 112MPH origonal speed cut...

Any ideas? gearbox problem(5th gear) engine problem? Cant work it out as it hits 9K RPM nicely through all the rest of the gears, just not 5th???

Thanks in advance.

dan

the reading will just be a bit out you need to get the limiter taking off

Its GPS reading buddy... My actual speedo reads a notch under 130MPH, GPS reads around 124-125MPH when it cuts back....

Alright mate

My friend just brought a DC2 a couple weeks ago and hes got the same problem go up to 7000rpm 125-130 then it bounces on the limiter he looses about 10mph and wont go any faster! what make is your converter it could be crappy one with the limiter set to 130!

Hi mate,

wow, well im glad its not just me going mad lol...

I have no idea what the make is as the fella had the convertor done for me as part of the deal..... I will get in contact with him and i'll let you know if its the same one as your mates.....

Really strange feeling, pulls pretty hard still right up to 130MPH on the speedo then bouces off from what feels like a limiter, but at only 7K RPM lol

Feels exactly the same as when i hit top speed in my 300HP starlet, exactly the same feeling, like ive run out of gear. very odd....

whats your mates make of convertor?

It sounds exactly the same!

i doant know what make his is but i'll try and find out 4 you if i can ill get a pic of it up! wouldn't mind finding out which one it is so i can avoid getting it for my car! it still in kph:((

Sounds like a limiter, my understanding is if you have the factory ecu you still have a limiter...

Ask the installer where he installed the speedo converter unit... or look on top of the VSS on the gearbox to check its installed there.

Basically if its installed after the ECU splice between there and the speedo itll only change the speed the speedo is reading in. if its installed between the ecu and the gearbox then itll de-restrict it also. ;)

Youll probly find theyve installed it behind the dash since te factory limit on JDM cars is actually 118mph which is 190kph.... which is what all the JDM clocks go to form the factory! :nice:

what turbo said sounds about right.
this problem is why people tend to fit the convertor on the gearbox speed sensor i believe

i has no idea how these things work... :nono:

Hi
Pull your speedo out, remove the converter connect speedo wire together again. Fit the converter on the gear box.
This is the proper way of doing it and how i fit all mine on the cars i sell. Putting it behind the speedo is just lazy and the dealer is cutting corners:angry2:.

Thanks very much for all the helpful comments.
