Hi I put a stock d16z6 in my car it's on 72k (no proof though) and its burning oil, I thought it might be valve stem seals as the engine was sitting over a 1 1/2 years without oil in it. It's fine below 4K rpm doesn't seem to burn much oil if any however when I hit vtec it usually puffs out a fair amount of smoke and it smells oily. I can't say exactly how much oil its used in the past 2 weeks but I'd say around 1/2 litre and I've done around 400 miles, mostly motorway driving at just under 4K rpm. Also if I'm in a high gear, low rpm and WOT it doesn't seem to puff out smoke
What does everyone think?
I will hopefully be doing a compression test tommow and I'll let you know the results.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply I did read this on another forum but I wasnt sure what they meant by would it be the rocker cover breather? I will double check my breather pipes tomorrow

Edit: apparently its the pcv valve and pipes

I was thinking the same jesse ,
With the throttle completely closed at high rpm while the car is in gear, high vacuum is placed on the valve seals. The idea is to have some one follow you on open road and downshift to 2nd to get close to tach and let the car deccelerate while in gear. If the person following you sees smoke, it's a good indication that your seals are bad.

Well I did a compression test and I got 235 240 240 235. Did that with the engine at operating temp, throttle open and fuel injectors disconnected and cranked over 7 times. Not sure why the readings are so high the gauge seems fine. The readings are all similar so rings are fine :/

I checked the pcv valve and it seems to be operating properly, had the engine running and used plier to clamp the pipe and the valve clicked, anything else to check?
