ok lads i do a bit of rallying here in ireland and im looking for a quick rack but they are really expensive so im just wondering is a civic type r steering rack shorter from turn to turn than say a normal steering rack that i have in my car,my car is a 97 1.4 but ive a 1600dohc engine in it?and also will the type r rack fit my car.thanks in advance

ek3,ek4,ek9,em1 have the newer style subframe that has the steering rack enclosed inside the subframe (one peice lcas)
eg's dc's and ej's all have the older subframe where the rack is bolted to the subframe and isnt enclosed (two piece lcas)
only exception of this rule is the ej9's some prefacelifts have the one peice wishbone and older subframe and some have newer
but all facelift ej9s had the newer style subframe with the single piece lcas due to the addition of the front anti roll bar

this is all from personal experience and what i have seen through working on numerous cars and viewing others etc
hope this helps you decide whether or not the rack will fit but if you must know a friend of mine did put a dc2 rack on his ej9 only because he couldnt use an ek9 one because of the subframe differences

hth.

ek9 dc2r are all 2.8 turn lock to lock... much better than 1.4 or sir (dont have exact figures) my 1.5 dual carb crx was 4.5 turns lock to lock...

defo worth the upgrade.... i do time attack :nice:

thanks thats a great bit of info,so i take it that the dc2r rack and ek9 rack are the same thing then,i just need to no this for when im looking to actually buy a rack.

You can get rack quickener that act like a gearbox on your steering column. Was a thread about them not too long ago.

You will need an EK9 rack as the DC2 will fit DC2s (obviously) and EGs whereas the EK9 rack will fit EJ/EKs (96-00).

Hope that helps :)

hi guys,
sori to disturb this thread. but how does an ek9 steering rack feels?does it heavier than a stock steering rack?

no not heavier, still has power steering. its just a quicker rack as said 2.8 turns for ek9 and dc2 and around 4 or so for a standard ek/ej

i just install ek9 steering rack and pump yesterday.today when driving it feels so heavy..

To me the EK9 steering is a bit heavier than the EK4 or the EJ. Turning radius is much quicker but the steering is a bit tighter.
