Looking to clean my Spoon foam filter, just wondering if anyone has done it before and what product do you use? i was all set to swing past the local motorbike place and grab a K&N recharge pack but seen some scare stories on Honda-Tech about these melting the outer layer so that got me worried. So just wanting to know what cleaner and re-oil do people use?

Thanks

When I went to clean my Spoon air filter I got in contact with Spoon Sport Europe and what they said is that all you need to do is give it a clean with soapy water and there was no need for any air filter cleaner. And since it is a dry filter does not need oiled.

So long story short tried cleaning it with soapy water and as you said the outer layer melted leaving the thin inner layer hanging off and I had to wait 3 days on a new one coming before I could drive the car again. Doubt I'd try it again, I'd just take the hit and buy a new one again.

when i done mine , i put it in a bucket of soapy water , let it sit for few hours , then put it in a bucket of clean water and after that let it dry in the sun

I also did like that + applied ITG oil on the foam.

Thanks guys , i washed it out with soapy water like you said, i stayed away from Fairy as i know how strong that can be so i used something alot simpler, plenty of dirt came out and i took it easy to try not pull at the glue, patted it down and left it to dry.

So now the debate, to oil or not to oil???

SRossi- did spoon say not to oil it??

What does the oil on filters actually do for the engine. Just more or less trap dirt inside it?

Yeah I think its supposed to trap the dirt but usually it ends up being drawn through the filter and ends up clogging up sensors and just generally making a mess

Its bollocks, dont oil it, just wash in warm water every now and again.
