hi all,
as above, only happened today for a few seconds but when i was on my way to work my speedo dropped dwn to zero, had no v-tech and bogged a tad in 4th and 5th so i pulled over and gave it a few revs to clear it through then drove fine! got in the car on the way home and drove fine, speedo did drop once or twice but as soon as it hit 0 it went back up again, but drove fine this time!
anyone ever had these issues who could point me in the right direction?
cheers guys

As said above your VSS could be faulty. Check the connections on the gear box. Your ECU needs the VSS input to give you vtec. This is why you can't get vtec when you just rev it when your parked. You need to be moving for it to read right.

that is the first thing i checked when i had the same problem in my 97 VTi, the plug on the gearbox was loose, just had to plug it in good and voila, no more problems.

cheers guys, il have a look at that tomorrow and let you know how i get on!

had a look today...the plug was fine (not loose etc) so decided to bypass the chip that converts the car from kmh - mph, and now have a speedo and the v-tech back, so all i need to do is order a new chip to get my mph back! does anyone know of anywhere i can purchase 1 of these from? im glad its not the VSS as when i rang honda earlier they quoted me £187 for a new 1!

I was going to say check the converter - mine did exactly the same thing when a soldered joint worked loose.

cough... "vtec"

Cheers,
Alex

whats with the...cough v-tech? lol, is there something i should be worried about?? like the v-tech?

V-Tech = :angry:

VTEC = :bow:

Just a small thing but it does bother some of us Honda geeks :).

Dunx

I bought a new VSS fitted it and it was still exacty the same (hovers between 0-30mph, goes to 40 if im on the motorway) the plug is in properly etc. Could it be faulty wiring or does it sound like the cog thing is whats gone?

Anyone got any ideas why my speedo dont work?
