I believe this is my first post on here... am from Jamaica and own a 98 JDM CTR.

My setup from what I can remember:
B16B/B18B ls/vtec
CTR Cams n Gears
B16A2 Pistons
2.5 Piped
Chipped ECU
Rest of setup is stock. Car used to run on Nitros but was taken off when it was sold to me and the tuned settings for the Nitros removed.

The past few weeks I have noticed the car is smoking a lot. Sometimes when it just start. But most times it's after using Vtec for a good 'little' period. The valve seals were changed recently but the problem is still there. Gas mileage has now gone down considerably and i've noticed the 2 injectors to the left of the engine has oil or gas (not mechanic savvy) at the top of it where the connectors are. Also i've now noticed a bit of smoke is coming from the breather on the valve cover.

Questions:
1. Could i just simply need a engine overhaul (rings, head gasket, etc)
2. Could it b that those two injectors have gone bad.
3. Could i be running lean as a result of the injectors and thus smoking?!

I need some ideas as to what could be wrong.... help is welcome... thanks!!!

hello and welcome.could be alot of things really.nitrous use could have taken its toll on the bottom end and your engine needs a re build.could be a blocked pcv valve.what colour is the smoke etc is it using oil.also wondering why if its a ctr it has different pistons etc?if its smokeing from the breather it could be back pressure coming uppast the rings and you need to tend to the bottom end.take off the oil cap when its running and see is there much smoke coming out.also clean pcv valve

Thanks for the help and reply...
The car has a different piston because the bottom part of the engine was changed to a b18 so it's stroked to a 1800cc engine... i'd like to believe that if the CTR pistons were kept the compression rate would b too high to run with Nitrous (Somebody correct me if am wrong)

The color of the smoke coming out is white not really blueish cuz if it's bright out and it's smoking only a bit u can't see it....

- the hose at the other end of the PCV valve is not connected to anything.... well thats if i found the correct thing

and lastly ... what would be involved in a rebuild of the bottom half?! would it just be changing the Piston rings and head gasket?!

OOH and this problem seems to not happen when am low on gas and running in vtec like it would when the car is full of gas :please:

are you losing oil?

only time i loose oil is when i use vtec and i've hardly been using vtec for close to a month now... it's been taking it's time burning oil so far and i haven't topped up since i've stop using vtec

its not un common to use a bit of oil when in vtec a lot,

start by getting a compression test done,

also, get your air fuel ratio checked out,.

which end of the pcv valve pipe is not connected?? has it been blocked up or just venting to atmosphere?

the part to the top of the intake mani is connected.... the other part close to the injectors is venting to air (the hose is not connected to anything) what would that hose normally run to?! Pics would b helpful

--- Compression test and fuel ratio out here in jamaica not the easiest of things am jus goona overhaul... (high performance rings and new OEM head gasket) and then see what happens after that

a compression test you could easily do your self, a compression tester gauge would not cost a huge amount of cash, and as for yor a/f/r, you really should get them checked out, if there is a fueling problem then its probably going to cause damage after you overhaul your engine,

you could do this your self as well by investing in a afr meter.

lol... u hav no idea how expensive the simplest things out here are... the other day i spent what would b d equivalent of $64 US for some copper NGK heat range 7 spark plugs.

aside from that meter which other would u recommend it b good to have?! my last car killed the bearings and i think it was a result of my oil pump failing.... what would i need to have to make sure am pumping the right amount of oil and such......

oil pressure gauge for that,

i always think of tools such as compression testers as a good investment almost regardless of cost,

the most important part of fixing just about anything is finding out why or what caused it to go wrong in the first place.

true, true... and i'll take ur advice on that.... nex cash in hand will b invested in getting one........

thanks for the help..... will update and let ya'll know what happens after i overhaul d engine
