i bought a vti 1 month ago and i am tryin to work out if they have skunk 2 stage 2 cams in them as the person i bought if off told me it had them in it. i hadnt driven a vti before so i dont no the difference in power can anyone help me find how to tell if it has them cheers.

Perhaps you could take off the cam cover and inspect the cams, measure the length of the lobe then go to the skunk2 website and find the dimensions to see if they are correct. I think the part number might be engraved on them somewhere. The part number for stage2 cams is SK.305.05.0145

alright we man. if this is who i think it is i would say it dont have stage 2 because first thing people do to civic's is get rid of the stock manifold and to me u dont go and fit skunk 2 cams with stock mani. plus most people would go for the cam gear to go with them + there would be paper work for them i would think

yeh its me lume ha. he had paper work saying new cams gears and belt its defs got skunk 2 gears thats the only reason thaat keeps my hopes up. there a goldish colour what colour are you standards calum ? cheers

The only way to be 100% certain if they are S2 II's is to measure the lobes on the cams.

Do you know if your ecu been changed at all, or if its running a piggyback (such as eManage)?

i am not sure if the ecu has been changed i will measure them. do you no the measurements the should be cheers

I don't have the specs to hand, would need to look them up as they are a very old spec.

- What rpm does your vtec kick in?
- What is your max rpm?
- What does your car idle at?

it kicks in 5400-5500

it limits at 8400-8500

and idles at about 800

hmmm, looking at those values, your ecu map may have been changed. If you were running a stock ecu, no chance of running the stage II's properly

when you say running properly what do you mean. do you mean not running to there full potential ?

ye i thought it was u lol. what to do is get in touch with haribo he has a set of skunk2 stage 2 sitting in his room he could maybe get some mesurments or codes that u could match yours up with. if not i will take u out the dundee road and give u a race see how ur car is against mine lol

The stage II's have quite wild low/mid lobes. Running this on an oem ecu will give an erratic idle and would probably stall your car before it couldn't even get anywhere

ok il bebo him. sounds like a plan for the wee race ha. the car will be at johns garage a week tomoro you should pop down away to get my new clucth and flywheel put on it cheers lads

No that's not true, at least for the EK9, I put them on before doing anything else(ECU, start working on the head etc....) and the engine was running fine, even after some high revving(not too much and not beyond 8800 rpm) and that's because S2 Stage 2's are supposed to be semi-racing.....and the B16B double valvespirngs can hold alot pressure.......but you shouldn't leave them for along time there standalone unless the car will be for daily drive purposes.

If "running properly" for you is to have a reliable setup when using S2 Stage 2 then all you need is to replace your valvesprings/retainers and that's it, but if running properly you mean getting the most out of these cams, then you definitely need to work on your head(raise compression(i.e ECU remap, thin head gasket), bigger throttle body, adjust the cam degrees.....long story) :)

yeah, you really don't wanna experiment like that

the ecu map for the ek9 is different than that for the ek4. I've seen many an example of erratic idling/stalling with Stage 2 cams, although it may be ok for some.

Stage 2 idle and bottom end shouldn't have much difference from stock CTR cams, only from 6000rpm.

And you don't need a bigger TB for a B16B.

mate, does your car kick in very hard on vtec? I mean... how can you not know? It should be pretty eratic.

i have never driven one before so i wouldnt no the difference. yeh it does think a need a remap and valvetrain to sort it out

vti should have no sudden power hike when vtec kicks in. SkunkStg2 should kick your head back. Theres quite a difference between the 2 cams.

do you think you might just have stg1 cam?

ok thanks . yeh i thought it might just be stage one cam i am going to take the rocker cover off today and check the codes .
