Skunk2 Stage 2 cams... should i change my C/R?

I've been doing some research for a set of cams for my 200 ek9,
I'm pretty much set on a set of skunk2 stage 2 cams as a good daily/track day set (not to lumpy for low revs, but a decent power/duration/lift increase).

My question is,
ek ctr's have a 10.8:1 c/r, will these cams work fine with this?
is it worthwhile to change the head gasket in order to get the most from these?
What c/r's would be good, and what hg's to achieve them?

Thanks in advance (carbon boy),
Tom

the headgasket alone will bump it a mere 0.2 points giving you 11:1. If you can afford to do so, then by all means go for it.

I'm pretty sure the Stage 2s will work well even with 12:1. You will need pistons at this rate to achieve that much compression and still have room for the valve reliefs.

You will also need to change your vtec point as these cams need to kick in at 6100. Any lower and it wont run right. I would sugest getting an engine management unit like Hondata s300 so you can adjust a few things that will be needed for this set up.

vtec's point's not an issue (s-afc fitted, though i may go to a hondata)...
will the cams work fine on the standard hg/is it worthwhile to change the hg?

if i went to 11:1 am i fine without pistons?
if i'm changing my hg (to go to 12:1) is it wirthwhile to go the whole hog (pistons as well)?

sorry about all the questions:eek:

11:1 = hg change

12:1 = piston AND hg change.

it is fine to use the stock CR with this setup. Just depends on how deep your pockets are and what your final goals/expectations are.

S-AFC/V-AFC...meh.

i know user ManosEK9 has S2S2 cams in his b16b and he loved them, i believe that was with OEM pistons too...

I used these cams in various of motor displacements and combinations, and love them! The vtec charge with these cams is unbelieveable and worth every penny. I think engine displacement and flow of head play a more crutial role in determining a cams performance in a particular motor over compression. I have used them with as low as 11.2:1 cr in a B18 setup and made mad power. Just my 2cents

tuner stg 2 and Pro 1 cams will run fine around 11CR. If you think its worth the labor to pull off the head for just a gasket change to get 0.2CR, think twice. But it might pay if you plan for some small head work/polish. Otherwise get some decent set of Valve springs and retainers. You'll need them.

Valve springs and retainers were already in my basket, but cheers for the advice on the c/r...

Brakes (in the post)
Weight loss shiney carbon bits (in the post)
Cams (in the basket)

Now for suspension and gearing and I think we'll have a runner ;):D

it really depends on the head work(porting) for these cams' potential to be maximized.
I have seen a B18 set-up using s2s2 cams with CTR pistons and supertech valves and crower spring ret made only a 7whp increase.

sounds like the motor wasn't healthy to begin with or the cams were not degree'd in properly or the tuner wasn't sure of what he was doing.

7whp may also be a peak number here.... did it gain or lose anything else elsewhere in the rev range?

B18C type R? The stock head port should be sufficient.

7whp increase is really coming down onto the tuner. I'd be spewing!!

my friend use S2S2 into stock b16b engine...its work awesome with properly tune of cam dialing and a/f...
