Rebuilt 3rd and 4th gear in my s80 500kms ago, put the car back on the road thursday and friday i noticed a whining coming from the gearbox.

If ya accelarate ya can hear it, and if ya come off the throttle ya can here it still.. if ya press in the clutch or put it in neutral rolling the whine goes away.

I know its a bearing problem but which one would i be looking to replace?

Clutch release bearing at a guess and its a gearbox off joby

If it was release bearing wouldnt it be whining when the car is running? I think its a gearbox issue tbh, the clutch is an exedy stage 2 3puk paddle with 10000kms on it

Could be input shaft bearing

I must get the box off and open it up. If ya accelerate off fast up through the gears ya can really hear it, then in 5th when ya come off the throttle ya can hear the whining

It will be the small input shaft bearing, the one nearest the clutch. While your there change the large one at the other end. About £45 for the pair.

I got my bearings from honda anytime I needed them, wernt cheap! :O

DON'T go to honda, you can get same brand bearing from any gearbox place for about 50% the price.
