Hi all i am very near to buying an ek9 prob 2000 Rx, anyway at what mileage do you really need to start spending money on servicing and can a regular honda dealer carry out the work due to the ek9 being an import?

I have an ep3 R at the mo and i know at about 72/75k miles it needs a big service where valve clearances need checking and big complicated stuff like that,

Does the ek9 have any big must have servive jobs i need to be aware of and at what kinda mileage?

cheers for any help

my ek9 has now done 106,280KM which is 70 something K miles. i Do an oil change every 3000 miles and when it came in the country on 91000KM it had the cambelt done. Honda are more than capable of servicing the Ek9 and there OEM fluids are recommended by spoon!! i cant think of any major mechanical issues with age as long as its serviced regularly (mine has had no biggies) apart from 3rd & 4th gear synchros, they always wear:(but its a honda thing, and can be sorted. im sure the techies will Divulge some more usefull info

Oh right cool i underststand, what im looking for is someone to tell me that if im buying a 60k mile ek9 make sure its had its something serviced as what i dont wanna do is buy it not knowing and then 500 miles later be hit with a 500 quid bill for a big service,

I am quite capable of changing oil, filters, fuel filters, fluids and exhausts, and general stuff like that, i just dont trust myself with pistons and headers and valves, they scare me alot.

if anyone has any other info that could help me then please shout,

If not do you think if i asked my local honda dealer they would have an outline of what needs to be done at certain mileage intervals?

cant help you there mate, with all my cars i always change oil and filter regularly and check all fluids and bits and bobs once a month/before long journey and never had a problem.:nice:its rare i here a b16'd civic with huge issues:nice:

bearing in mind my mates eg coupe has 142000 MILES:nice:runs sweet and made 178HP at rolling road:D

Honda will service it fine, its almost the same as a regular civic ek in that respect.

apart from that, when its got oil when you buy it and that it doesnt burn loads and that cooland is still good (i.e. no oil mixed in with it) then you wont go far wrong, always test-drive if you can to make sure it drives striaght :nice:

cool yeah im going to see fastjapcars on fri to see one close up and chat about the options and iv heard of some good stories from fastjapcars so looking forward to doing business with him

I went in to my local honda dealer and asked the service man about what to look out for at certain mileages and the only thing he thinks to look out for is the cam belt at about 60k, apart from that he also said that they would be able to service it with no problems - just got to give him the chassis code like a week in advance so they can order the parts, or if i wanted to use special parts, i could bring them in and just be charged the labour,

so all sorted, off to buy a ek9!
