Rear Caliper Problem

I've just gone to fit my new brakes and found that one of the pins in the drivers rear caliper carrier has seized, but it still rotates with a socket and wrench on the end, but just doesn't move in and out at all. Is there a fix for this or is it a new carrier job as i'm assuming?

Any help's appreciated.

Pull it out with a vice-grip and clean it up and grease it with anti-seizing grease (copper grease) and push it back in and it should move in and out easy enough..Its what I did with my old vti when it happened and I had no problems

i've tried a few different things, mole grips while the carriers still on the car, tried turning it loads to try free it up, clamped it to a bench and used a bolster and a lump hammer, didnt shift a bit. dont know why its seized so much if it will rotate? Don't have a proper vice unfortunately. Frustrating!

Wow really sound stuck in there..I remember mine was tight to get out but I think I just srayed wd-40 into it and pulled and twisted it with a vice-grip and it came out..

yeah, i suppose i could try the WD40 injection technique lol. I've put it back together for now. Will prob have another go on friday. I noticed a small split in the rubber boot though, thinking this is the cause of it seizing :( annoying!

WD40 is great for everything lol:p...Yea that probaly is the problem as that prevents water and dirt getting in around the pin..So water more than likely got in and it seized..

ye... poo that is! looking at getting another anyway but on friday i will hav another bash i think! still though... how would it seize up in terms of pushing in and out but still be able to turn? hmmm

Use a blow torch around the carrier part until toasty then leave it to cool or dip it in some cold water from a tap.. the swelling and sudden contraction should ease it out:nice:

i had the same problem wd40 did the work
but my rear brake pads are toasted !

Hit it with a hammer. Apply liberal usage of offensive words beginning with F and C.

May have a pair for sale shortly. Will keep you posted if you still need them.
