recently my rear brakes would squeak for a couple of seconds when setting off after being parked for ages.
also had noticed that my handbrake was shite and would slowly move on a steep hill and was planning to get it fixed next weekend.

today whilst i began driving after being parked on a slight hill that my rear driver brakes were ultra hot and smoking.

i let them cool down and drove home but kept checking every 500 metres how hot they were.

they were still getting really hot but not hot as first time with all that smell but still a concern.

would anyone know what could be the problem as ive not driven it hard or anything before i put my handbrake on!?

Sounds like a siezed brake caliper :nice: I think the best option is to either rebuild or just replace it i'm afraid

thanks for the advice, think a replacemnt would have to be done as i dont think i could and would want to rebuild it.
have you experienced this yourself?

haven't experienced this problem myself but it is not too uncommon. Have you changed or replaced the brakes recently?? If not...it is probably best to just get a replacement.

no i haventas ive only had the car since november but thanks for your help mate, well apreciated

My car does the same thing man, You need to re-adjust your parking brake. Thats why they heat up, your parking brake stays on even after you release it.

if it was the parking brake would it not affect both rear brakes?

As mentioned sounds like a sticky caliper or slider pins

Get someone to operate the handbrake whilst you are looking at the caliper, check that the spring loaded handbrake mechanism is operating ok, if it is then...........

Remove the bolt behind the RTA that secures the brake hose, remove the caliper from the carrier

Check the 2 slider pins are moving ok, if they are not then they will need removed and cleaned/regreased, if they are moving ok then it's most likely that your caliper piston is seized

Honda do rebuild kits for about £50+vat, however brakes international do fully refurbed calipers with new everything and a warranty for not much more :nice:

rang brakes int and they needed to know what size discs they are, he asked if its 240 or 260mm. does anyone know the size for rear for a jordan/ek4?

Just a heads up

Received my rear remanufactured calipers from Brakes International today, look fantastic, very fast service :nice:

I used these guys for my rears too, great service!

waited a whole week to get this done and these were the results.

Got the new refurb caliper from brakes int

took it to a local mechanic who fitted them and confirmed the old calipers had seized.
he adjusted my handbrake and bleeded the brake where caliper was fitted.

drove home noticed the brake pedal travelled ALOT more.
rear caliper still getting hot and handbrake was not good at all.

Also when i pump on the brake parked up it does not go stiff but continues to travel like a basta*d.

Anyone know what this mechanic might have done wrong or has the car got a bigger problem.

One of my mates told me that the brake pedal traveling too much is due to mechanic not bleeding it properly.??

looked abit closer and it looks like half of the brake pad is only touching the disc and the other half isnt.

Could be that the mechanic fitted the calipers or pads incorrectly but could it be due to not bleeding properly that brake pedal has to tracel further to finally get some brakage power??

Try removing the brake pads, cleaning calliper carriers and pad contact surfaces and applying copper grease to carriers. Then bleed the brakes again. Start at the point furthest away from reservoir - n/s/r, o/s/f, o/s/r then n/s/f.

As your old brakes were seizing and getting hot they could have heated your discs and caused them to warp lad
