Realistic Performance

Hi folks,

I've read all the hype about 5.8s to 60 and what not, but I was wondering what realistic performance figures there were for standard EK9's?

I know they are weapons round a track and in the bends from all I've read and I've been told they have a pretty decent straight line speed (but the slowest of all Type R's apparently?!).

I'm looking for figures to compare the EK9 against other cars, mainly things like 330Ci BMW's, S3's etc.

Cheers..

I'd say a healthy and standard EK9 could do it in 6.4 or a bit less, which is a small miracle for a 1.6 NA engine!

Remember the EK9 is a very easy car to modify with the giant array of parts out there so that 6.4 can easily go far, far lower. I would imagine a K20 EK9 would be 0-60 in 4.5 seconds or less.

And it's not just the speed of an EK9 which makes the car's acceleration so great, it's also how it is delivered, the revvy-ness of the engine is brilliant!

in comparison with bmw and audi etc it wont break for a start whereas they will it would keep with them around a track.its never going to be an animal however as the engine is small its only meant to compete with other small hot hatches such as vzr n1 and mirage rs mivec etc which its beter than i think.

I've only driven an EP3, never a 9. Do they feel similar in the way they drive?

I enjoyed the frantic drive of the EP, I'm hoping the EK9 isn't much slower than the EP.

where do you live if you dont mind me asking?
do you have access to one?
the ek9 delivers an excilerating drive.
driven dc2, dc5, ep3, ek9, atr, and fn2, the 9 and dc2 is by far most involving and fun to drive. (my experience)

where do you live if you dont mind me asking?

I asked him this already but he never replied. I know he's in Scotland and so am i, although mines is off the road im sure their is someone that could give him a blast in one.

You dont even need a go in one tbh, i had never even sat in a Honda in my life until the day i drove away from Dunks with mines. :drive: Best thing i ever done.

Sorry, I'm from Aberdeen!

I've been in an EJ and I liked the driving position, a lot less on a box than a lot of other cars :D

Performance figures like 0-60 etc mean nothing.

What matters are timeslips or laptimes, as those involve the most important aspect of the "performance figure" achieved, and that is driver skill.

A D15 Civic in good hands can perform better than an EK9 in bad hands.

Each car is different, don't try to compare a car with a smaller engine to one with a bigger one when it comes in a straight line. As for the 0-60 the time on Honda's site states that it is 6.7. As MFactory says 0-60 doesn't mean anything, its just figures.

ive timed mine at 5,8 secs which was decent. it has an orc clutch and light flywheel plus a quick shift!:secret: but to unleash their full potential you need to get to a track wiv some corners!!

I've been quicker than a UKDM ep3 in straight line speed. But I think you can get a lot more out of a 9 if you are a good driver, after a play with a mate in his evo I think I need more practice! :nice:

Wayne, I stay in Aberdeen also, if you have any doubt of weather to go for an EK9 or an EP3 i'll take you out for a drive, think that would soon help make your mind up ;)

My car is far from standard mind you (pics of it and a couple vids round knockhill here http://www.ek9.org/forum/photos-videos/15222-my-track-attack-spec-ek9.html ) but it would give you an idea of their potential, think mine as it stands does about 5/5.5 to 60 by the way

send me a pm :)

wish i was close by you could take me out in the ek9 :p, ive been in my mates ep3 but i feel that my ek4 is much more fun to drive

Steve - that would be great if we were both free to go for a spin or even just a look to be honest! Where abouts in Aberdeen do you stay?

When I drove an EP3 I thought it felt very fast (compared to what I'm used to). The way vtec encourages you to thrash it is excellent.

Stock to stock would the EK drop far behind the UKDM EP3? All the videos on youtube seem to show either a modified EP wasting an EK or vice versa :D

ALSO I've spoken with a couple of importers and have discussed my EK9 needs with one who was recommended off a local forum. Just waiting to get about 75% of my cash together which hopefully should be around the end of this month or next :)

I stay in town, busy this weekend but give me a shout next week if you like

Standard vs standard, they are pretty much the same straight line sspeed, although the EK9 does handle better in the twisties, the EP3 uses a standard rack and so the steering feel is pretty dull where the EK9 uses a fairly short rack (shorter than a DC2) so feels super sharp

K20 of course with bolt ons and tuning would easy see about 250bhp, although to get it to handle well a diff is a must although this can be pricey to buy and then fit

Depends what you want from a car, EK9 is hard work as standard to keep on the boil for straight line speed, although it's so rewarding as soon as you get to the twistie stuff

I'm more concerned about acceleration up to 70 or so than straight line pace up to stupid figures, I'd just like to be able to burn or at least keep up with the likes of an EP3, mid range BMW etc.
