Hi guys this is my Honda Civic Vti Rally Car.
I bought it a couple of years ago and have done a couple of local events with it. ( including some landscaping!!)
Circuit of Munster 2013
Banna 2013 (the clutch went at the start line, but we still got to the end!)
Had planned on doing Banna last November but my navigator was sick for it !
The Spec is fairly basic compared to alot of civics that are rallying nowadays but here it is:
Engine and Gearbox:
B16 A engine running with MBE managment.
S80 Standard Gearbox
Brakes
Carbon Lorraine Pads
All braided lines
Suspension :
Front is Adjustable DMS
Rear is Adjustable Proflex
I am going to try to do a few events during the year, we'll just have to see what the budget allows!!
Some of ye might know this car and seen some of the incars posted for it a while back, well I'm the man in the passenger seat in this one!
Anyway, back to my own car. From as far back as 1994 she has been on the stages and has competed in alot of events with alot of top divers.
Here is a nice bit of history about the car that I have been able to piece together with the help of Google!:
In 1994 Mark Higgins did a few events in the car.
Some of ye might have seen that famous stage that Higgins is commentating throughout in the Manx Rally in 1994, well this is the car!
He is some man to steer a car!
Higgins did a few more events from what I can find on the web, including Ultser in 1994 and in 1996 with a different livery. (which livery do you prefer?? I really like the old Team Castrol one.)
Ulster 1994
I love the spare wheel in this pic!
Higgins and Simmons managed to get an 11th O/A in the wee civic, a great result for what was basically a standard Vti civic.
1996 Ulster Rally
(I think that Higgins and Simmons Retired from the Ulster rally in 1996, not sure why. Open to correction on this too)
From 1996 to 2003 I was unable to find much info about the car. But in 2003 I know that James Cullen from Letterkenny competed in the car. James Cullen was one of the top drivers in Ireland and had competed in some serious machinery over the years, my favourite being the pink sierra:
From what I could find online, I know that Cullen competed in the Rally of the Lakes, Donegal Int, Donegal Harvest and the Circuit of Ireland. With 3 class wins and one second place.
Here he is on the Circuit of Ireland in 2003:
From there I think that Tommy Doyle was the next owner. Tommy was also very competitive in the civic, competing in the Fastnet Rally, Cork 20, Galway Int., Donegal Int., among others. Also with class wins.
I am finding it difficult to locate any pics of Tommy in the Civic, but here's a more recent one of him on his way to 3rd O/A in Rally NI.
Richard Price then purchased the car and also saw some very quick times on the stages:
I might have missed a few owners in between, so if anyone knows something that I missed please let me know! I think that Toni Kelly rallied this car for a while, but haven't been able to find any info on it.
And now the car lies with me! Hopefully I will be able to live up to its history and have many more years rallying with it.
