Im looking to buy a set of either Toyo R888 or Yokohama AO48. Which one should I get?

Im looking for your feed back as I know that people have had one or another of these tyres.

Im going to be using them on road and track, in the dry as my car doesnt come out in wet anyway.

Any comments welcome to help me make up my mind.

the ao48 in my opinion but look they are two great tyres, I had both, the Ao48s are even good in wet. you cant go wrong with either

I have reall looked into these and alot of people say that the AO48s are terrible in the wet so its interesting that you say that the aren't bad.

Good to know

A048's are better than r888's in my experience. Both can handle wet conditions so to speak, but will struggle to clear standing water

Is it worth using them on road or will the just over heat say on a motorway and wear down really fast?

Depends on what compound you decided on. I've a friend who works at demon Tweeks, and majority of his customers recommend the yokohamas or federals over the r888

Im going for medium compound

Toyo R1R great road and track tyre!

Don't waste a semi slick on the road I don't anymore because it is a waste IMO

Thanks Ian

I will have a look at the R1R. Has it got a good side wall?

I ask as it looks like the same kind os spec as a Yoko Parada and the have really soft side walls

No they have great sidewalls! Just like the R888! They even say the construction is the same as the R888 just not the same grip level or tread pattern. My bro has these on his teg and I'm very impressed with them.

I have the r1r toyos on the back of my car, very stiff sidewall twice that of paradas and they gripped really well right from cold on the track!

What about yok ad08's? I'm running them on my car very sticky tyre plus will last longer then the others your looking at.

I wanted AD08s but the six=ze I want (195/50 15) are backorderd to Japan.

Nightmare! Fedral RSR's cheaper plus good all round grip?

ive had the toyo R1R on road and track, brilliant from the off, altho on track once they get really hot they will understeer,
not had a chance to test the fedrals or R888's on track yet but i find even in damp conditions the 888's understeer badly, excellent in the dry on the road tho.
fedrals seem an excellent alround tyre tho. the 888's im running are medium compound!!! just what ive found hope it helps

I had a feeling that they would heat up very easily and then get very hot on the front that is the main reason that I only use them on the rear wheels.

They are an excellent choice for the rear as it can be hard to get heat quickly into a semi slick on the track compared to a tyre with more tread.

Last time I was on the track with these tyres on the rear they were 100% from the word go, the back end was solid and they hardly wore at all. Great value for money IMO

A048 are TERRIBLE in the wet, feels like i'm driving on ice, no traction at all even with a torqueless B16

R888 are much much better in the wet

In the dry though A048 are better, they don't seem to go "off" as quickly as the R888 do and give immense levels of grip

A048 are also a lighter tyre ;)

For the price difference though, think R888 are the best to go for really, i only tried A048 as i wanted to see how they would perform!!!

I just bought the federals over those two due to cost and lifespan, they are alot cheaper and last long and give almost same grip in dry and a bit better in the wet :)
