I have got Silkoline 5w 40 fully synthetic and i feel my valve train is a little noisy... well not so much noisy just you can hear more of it compared to my brothers who is using castrol magnatec 10w 40???

Failing that could it be my valve clearances that are creating the extra noise? Its not excessive noise its certainly sounds healthy just you can hear more valve train then my brother.....

Some 1 advise please

£120 actually... lol

Gona get it done anyway but i'm not convinced. I think its the oil??

still to thin tho mate! try the 10W30 first then get ur valve clearances checked afterwards mate

I paid Honda £75 and that is ALOT.
The job takes 45min, 1 hour MAX.
Next time Im hoping to do it my self, thats if I get the tools I need to do it.

Its not to thin. The 5W allows it to be more fluid from cold to give better protection and 40 gives a much higher protection when running hot.

I think its the valve clearances.

Which honda garage do you sue bon?

An oils cst at 100degC determines it’s SAE rating within the following parameters.

SAE 20 = 5.6 to less than 9.3cst
SAE 30 = 9.3 to less than 12.5cst
SAE 40 = 12.5 to less than 16.3cst
SAE 50 = 16.3 to less than 21.9cst
SAE 60 = 21.9 to less than 26.0cst

a decent oil always falls in the middle of the spec so an SAE 40 will be around 14cst.

ALL oils labelled 40 must fall within the SAE parameters at 100degC so everything from a monograde 40 to multigrade 0w-40, 5w-40, 10w-40, 15w-40 are the same thickness at 100degC.

Summary

Cold start.

A 5w-40 will flow better than a 10w-40.
A 10w-50 will flow better than a 15w-50
A 5w-40 is the same as a 5w-30

At operating temperatures.

A 10w-50 is thicker than a 10w-40.
A 15w-50 is thicker than a 5w-40
A 0w-40 is the same as a 10w-40

So, where they noise before you changed the oil ? I use 0-40 in my b16b and mine is really tappie, i have had my valve clearences set as well. I would'nt worry about it if it was fine before you switched oil.

iv used silkolene pro s 4w40 before an found it a tad noiser on the valve train but i found it very good tho

Don't know its an engine swap....:nono:

Just in comparison its a tad noisier than my bro UK C6. It probably just me worrying...

And yes i don't drive my car normally i do track days odd trips to the ring and general drive it hard.... Within reason. I don't R@p# it but do love the vtec.:drive:

Thank you. Both my mate and bro are about to switch to Silkoline 5w 40 so we'll see in comparison:nice:

Will probably get my valve clearances done also just to be on the safe side.
