Bought my ek9 April 2014 after owning an SiR a few years ago.

Rattled on idle and burnt more oil than petrol!

Seemed reasonable to take it off the road for winter (living in Northern Scotland this is a must!) and get it running perfect.

Decided to get the engine out and give it a major service / overhaul.

With the engine out I stripped the head and bottom end far enough to remove pistons.

Fitted new rings to bottom end. I replaced stem seals and the original piston style LMA's with springs to eliminate the rattling on idle.

Rest of engine rebuilt with standard parts.

Rocker painted matt black for a change!

Whale ***** was a nice finishing touch to the bay!

Next up is getting my Buddyclub P1's refurbished in bronze.

Forgot to mention engine isn't receiving spark at the moment, only finished fitting engine last night. Any suggestions as to why there is no spark. Currently assuming it's an earthing issue until I get out to garage tonight with a multimeter

Did you hone cylinders before fitting new rings? Pretty important.

Yes but not excessively. Had never done it before so didn't want to go too wild. To what extent would you normally hone them?

You did it yourself? FairPlay.
I didn't hone mine myself, I had the block bored at the same time because I've gone oversize Pistons so made sense to get the machine shop to do it.
I can't say I know a great deal about it but I'd say a nice rough surface will do it.

Can't help you with the ignition issue, could be a number of things seen as you've had it all apart. It was working when it came out I assume? Makes me think it's a wiring or ground issue?
